Wow, that is generous!

I wonder if someone up your direction might be able to help to get you to the party. We would all love to meet you!

OK.... I need clarification again. Isn't Chicken Rustler the now name for Imp. And wasn't Imp Russ. Well, Ron said something about Russ being in the Seattle area..... And Donna also said that chicken rustler wasn't Imp. So, I guess I have fallen asleep again.

Where is Russ if not Chicken Rustler?
And who did Chicken Rustler used to be?
And isn't Ethel down near Mossyrock?
And who am I, anyway?

Weaveagarden - you crack me up!!! Imp is still Russ. Chicken Rustler was formally known as Iron Imagery (or something like that). You, my dear, are a world famous birthday suit mud wrestler. And I am pretty sure after you are done with him, Ron will be a formally known as also.

Now that we have that cleared up - isn't there a lady who lives in Belfair???? I can assure her that Paraclete 2 would be charming company for the trip down here....

See now. You are as confused as I am ...... I think you may mean Bellingham. And yes there is. There is also someone even farther north I think.... Ferndale or something. Maybe somebody can make sure he makes it. I hate to see anybody be left out.

And iron imagery.... Of Course! That is it. I get so confused when people change their avatar or name. (I just changed my avatar twice in about a month. So I guess I have not room to talk.)
Anyway, Ron, I meant it was IronImagery or the great chicken thief who I wanted to make sure could come to the event. Of course, I also thought it was Russ, and they aren't the same person at all, apparently. Sheesh!

Ironically I got a call yesterday from Dr. Howard asking to come out this week and pick up some eggs to take back for AI testing. The Dept. of Ag used to pay me $10 a dozen to come out once a Quarter and test for AI. I never did it, but if I remember right, they'd pay $5 per bird to swab your birds for AI. They also used to do NPIP Certification relatively inexpensively too.

Now they want to come out and test your birds for free - unless you happen to sell your eggs which I do at which time I am actually paying the State to test my birds. They have also made NPIP testing pretty much cost prohibitive for most of us. The State now charges you $80/hr and the clock starts from the time the Vet gets in his car until he arrives back at the office. The Vet is in Olympia and that's 3-4 hours from me. So consider 6-8 hours and then another 2 hours or so to test the birds (he said it's 2-3 minutes per bird plus 30 minutes on each side for prep and cleanup) and you're looking at about 8-10 hours at $80/hr each year just to get NPIP certified. Care to take a guess how many chicks I would have to sell and ship before I would even break even?

And here's the real kicker, all this just so you can help the State continue to receive Federal funding for AI and NPIP. That's right, the Federal Gov't - you and my tax dollars - already give the State funding for the AI and NPIP programs. Should an outbreak of PT occur, the State loses that funding. So, one would THINK that the State would be encouraging participation in the program and not discouraging it by making it so cost prohibitive. The only folks this hurts are the backyard flock owners because the big commercial poultry farms have no choice but to participate.

Having said all that, yes Julie Broome and Dr. Badcoe are very nice people, friendly, and very willing to help. Truth be told, I don't think they like what's going on either but they just have to do what the Legislature has forced upon them and us. My advice is to let both of them know and your Legislature that this new law they passed this year is completely unfair, bogus, and harmful to the State because it discourages participation rather than encouraging it. Unfortunately, it is often the squeaky wheel that gets the grease and I think the best thing that can happen is if the State sees a complete loss of participation in these two programs. Then they can go back to the Legislature and point to the specific cause being this new Law. Once the State realizes that they can very well lose all that Federal money with just one instance of PT and that the risk is multiplied expotentially by every person who fails to participate, then maybe they will revoke this law and make it worth our while again participate.

Btw, for those who've seen my place, they know I've got two ponds on the property. Every winter I get migratory wild ducks coming through and spending some time on the pond with my other ducks. This is exactly why the State initially was paying me to allow them to test my birds. I'm also up north and those birds are flying south. So how much does the State really care about keeping tabs on AI in this State or in this country?

God Bless,

Yeah....I almost passed out when I asked for a quote for them to travel to Okanogan.

Hi Heather, yeah, I never even thought about that. Just imagine the cost! I hope more folks on your side of the mountain and others on this side too will let their voices be heard and tell the Dept. of Ag just how they are missing the boat on this one!

God Bless,

Just love the way my brain works (or doesn't).

I just love a party, don't you all?

OMG - I have totally lost my mind today. I misspelled fowl and somehow confused Bellingham and Belfair even though I drove through one today (and have lived here since birth). Maybe I need to go back to work. I get out of the office and my mind turns to mush. At any rate I meant Bellingham - there is someone there right??? Maybe I need more sleep.....

I just want to let everyone know that the party is going to be held in Kirkland. Kim aka KMHunter is planning on renting a center for us to meet in. The center will cost 45 dollars per hour, for 5 hours. We need to send what money we can to Kim now. Please send a PM to Kim to ask her how you can do that. We also need to keep the party on February 28th 2010 as it was originally planned.

I really need everyone to keep the other thread "Places we have called in Washington" on topic. It is way too hard to keep everything straight, if you are chatting about things that are completely unrelated to the party planning.

Thank you Christina

P.S. I really don't want to talk about a summer party until we have accomplished the party in February. There will be enough time to figure out what we can really do later after we meet, each other in person this coming February 28th.

Mornin' Washingtonians!

I thought I would share a chicken story today:

So, some of you may know that I have 3 - 9 1/2 week cockerels that I have kept by my computer since I got them. Purchased originally as freezer special, one had spraddle leg and so I wanted to keep him close to watch his progress and keep him safe. (ironic, but I just can't cull chicks!) So I brought along a couple of buddies he seemed to be close to. Anyway, the point is that I never graduated to putting them outside with the others because of the weather, and because they are so good about staying in or on their box and roost. 9 1/2 weeks and I don't have to worry when I leave the house that I will find them in another part of the house. I have never contained them. They like their little corner by the computer and stay there.
Well here lately the huge one, Archie, has begun early crowing. Whenever I leave the room, he crows for me to return. I am known as the crazy chicken lady in the neighborhood. If they only knew!

WELL !!!! Looks like I did a pretty good job of confuzzling people.

I really didn't intend to and thought that I posted that I had changed my name. OK so to clear it up.

Chicken Rustler was formerly ironimagery. aka Rob aka Da Fat Kid

I changed because the other name is what I use with my welding / metal art work and it just didn't fit with the chickens. And yes I am in Ethel, which is on US-12 just off I-5 exit 68.
I am happy to see on the other post that a date and location has been set. Now things should be able to move forward much better.
I would like to suggest some type of an informal "guest book" simply so ther is record of who came from where and that may help in picking future locations.

If you're up next to the Canadian border, maybe Terri can get you on her way down. Or maybe you can catch the train and we can pick you up? We would love to meet you!

Anyone here interested in a pair of american chinchilla rabbits? They are meat breed rabbits that I have had a very nice litter of kits from last spring. I just am finding it hard to take care of due to my arthritis they are a big breed rabbit that is also on the endangered list. I am planning on just having small breed rabbits now.

I do have pictures if anyone is interested and the buck has won 1st place each time I have shown him and he got best of breed at the last show i took him to.
