Today has been a crazy day !!!! Got up at 4 am not feeling to hot. didn't get much done this am. I had taken a small turkey out for dinner so this afternoon I stuffed it with apple aand orange slices put it upside down in the roaster. Into the oven with cook timer set and off to town we went then to patriot to get feed. got home just in time to make mashed tators, stuffin and gravy to go with the bird. Then since I had nothing fer dessert I decided to make some experimental cookies. They were basically oatmeal with some lumpy peanut butter. And since I had no raisins I used the best I had. I had some dried plums so ran em through the food choppa and wala!!!

OK so I am going to share something that is somewhat embarrasing, made me rather un-happy and has been very educational. I hope some of you may be able to learn from this.
We have been feeding Patriot 20% but the last time we went they were out and we needed feed so I got the 16%. We had been getting 15-18 per day from 23 when we switched our production dropped to 10-12. Then we had a lot of canned corn that had been given to us. Well we dont eat much corn due to DW. So DW decided she was going to give some of the corn to the chickens. By the time I saw what was going on she had fed them 2 1 gal buckets of (canned) corn. Next day only 8 eggs day after that 5. and now they have started to come back. I am sharing this to give you an idea how the protien AND corn can effect egg production. Today we got more feed and it is 20% so will be tracking the progress.

Yes indeed, and there is NO monkeys down under, verified my my mates down under, only 1 of which was on line right now as it is NIGHT down there, but still so much fun to chat with them, and discuss their chookies.

I understand there are no monkeys in Australia, other than in zoos, but there was a a verse in the song about monkeys. I don't know why.

I was born at the Presideo (sp.?), and our home was within a couple of blocks from Golden Gate park, but my mother and I left when I was 2. I continued to go back every summer for a few weeks until I was 10 and decided I only wanted to live with one family and have some stability that way. It was a little complicated.

So Daffy has decided to make the dog bed her nest!

Leroy (the black lab) is dealing pretty well with it so far. He lays next to her and looks at us with those sad pathetic lab eyes. It's like he is saying "Mom, the duck is in my bed again. Can I please have her box?"

Poor Leroy.

I'm so glad he is such a good dog. He tolerates the ducks and the little dog so well. He is a 5 1/2 year old sweetheart.

I feel for you CCG.

It makes me sad to think about when the day comes for little dog and big boy.

Found this egg in my backyard today, any idea what kind of bird it comes from?
Throwing it in the incubator...curious to see what happens....probably nothing though hahah. But ya never know!

It's super tiny like maybe an inch long and it's a little more blue than it shows up as in the picture. It's even too tiny for the quail racks in my bator

Oops, forgot to respond to the rest. At 8, moved from Tacoma to Spokane for 4 years while my stepfather, who is now my adopted Dad went to Gonzaga law school. Moved back to Tacoma after he graduated and by this time I had 3 younger siblings. I graduated from Stadium high school in 1974. I did go back to Palo Alto, CA very briefly after graduation to follow a boy I loved and lived with some beautiful meditating, drum playing, garbage canning, vegetarian boys until my money ran out and I got hungry for hamburgers. So I came home.

My condolences. I only had the pleasure of seeing Chloe briefly the day I came to your place, but it was clear she was special in the way you spoke when I asked about her. 16 years is a good long time to spend with a treasured friend but never long enough.

Yikes! I would not have thought it would make THAT big a difference, but this is really good to know. Granted, corn is carb and sugars and no protein to speak of, but it's ya know, NATURAL so what tha'...!!

Wow. Note to self. Find 20% protein. Stock up!!

Thanks for the experienced info!!
