Yikes! I would not have thought it would make THAT big a difference, but this is really good to know. Granted, corn is carb and sugars and no protein to speak of, but it's ya know, NATURAL so what tha'...!!

Wow. Note to self. Find 20% protein. Stock up!!

Thanks for the experienced info!!

. I'm going to try candling on Thursday, since im travelling to Pullman for The weekend to move some of my daughters things home from college. I've studied the photos of embryo development so I have an idea what I'm looking for at 7 days, but am a little apprehensive about handling fragile eggs. So far so good though. Temperature has been holding steady.

Labs are the sweetest dogs! My two labs are bird hunting dogs but are always with the chickens and never had any problems. They all sit together begging for handouts, dogs and chickens living in unity hahahaah

My Appenzeller Spitzhaubens go into lock down tomorrow. I'll candle them tomorrow evening and take out any that are not developing. When I candled before, I had seven out of seven developing.

TouchOLass: Where do you get your feed at? I just have been getting it from Larry at the Feed Store, but if you have a big enough flock you might check the Ag Supply over by the fairgrounds. But Rare Feather Farms (who lives in Okanogan) says you have to buy in pretty large quantity from them. I think I may look into just how much and see what the protein amount is.

Yep not great, but my only other option would have been to throw the extra 4 eggs away (not the exhibition blacks)...so I thought I would take a chance. Cheryl said something about not using the little dividers in her Brinsea - I think that is a good idea. Maybe I could fit the eggs better down in beside each other this way. I was thinking when I candle I would take out the dividers and try to stuff the extra 3 down inside with everyone else....but I don't want to jossel them much do I? Do you think this is a good idea? Maybe I should just leave them how they are...candle...and next time try this without the dividers. Opinions? I, too, will be gone this weekend so I will most likely candle Thursday. Still not a pro, but at least now I have a decent flashlight.
