I'm not gonna check the bator.....I'm not gonna check the bator!! I hope I finally have the temp right!! I moved the temp around a few times because it seemed to fluctuate a bit? I just hope I get some chickies !!! I'm still trying to find a reasonable candler ( is that a word)?? lol I went to Harbor freight and got this awesome small flash light but, it didn't have lumens it had like 13000 candle something?? I brought it home and tried looking at infertile eggs to look for the air cells and well.... not sure it was giving me the best view! So, I'm off again to find another one, I just can't spend 50 dollars on a flashlight!! I have an awesome ryobi but, it's not led and I don't want to cook the egg!

My kids just let our dogs out into our fenced yard, two of the neighbor dogs (Jack Russel - same one that was run over in the fall, and a ridgeback) were digging to get in where the other neighbor's dog (wolf mix) came in the other day. My dogs ran over to the fence, one got out through the hole and attacked that nasty JR again and then took off down the hill after it. My kids caught my dog and put both our dogs in a smaller fenced yard (20'X24') within our fenced 1.5 acres within our 3.25 acre property. I sure wish people would contain their dogs! I put my fence up to keep my dogs in and away from the property edges where they can see all the loose dogs in the neighborhood, does not help when the neighborhood dogs dig under my fence! Then I put an electric dog fence around that, but if there are other dogs trrying to get in my yard, that won't stop my dogs from going after them, so I fenced in that smaller area to keep my dogs in that. I want to send my neighbors the bill for all my fencing! I don't think that Willow seriously hurt the JR. Now I think that instead of the electric dog fence, I need a 3 line electric fence to keep the neighborhood dogs and other animals out.

AND lets not forget everyone's favorite MAGPIES!!!!! I HATE those birds!!

I was not familiar with magpies until I saw them all over the campus at WSU. I don't believe we have them on the west side of the mountains. I thought they were pretty but I don't know anything about them. Are they nuisance birds?

Oh absolutely! they steal food and get into things! Just read 4312's post about them stealing food when they went camping! They are bad birdies!! We have them all over here in the valley, they drive me crazy!!

Geez I guess! Yea, I think I'd go over and tell the neighbor to contain his dogs that are trying to DIG IN to your place or I don't know can you put a restraining order on a dog??

I got the stock tank pulled out and getting t ready for babies. We used to take 2 tin cans. put a fire cracker (and a green army man) in the bottom one, stick the larger can over the bottom one, shoot them with the .22 and try to make them explode. Gosh how did I ever live to be this age....some of the stuff I did as kids. You are lucky that tub didn't hurt you guys. Gosh, how did we make it?

I don't know if they're all over WA or not. I only saw them for the first time when we were touring the WSU campus before DD started last year. I don't see them in my yard anyway, so haven't had to deal with them. The Steller's jays are particularly prevalent in my yard this year though. All over my deck for some reason, although I have nothing out there for them. DH has hung suet cakes for the little (what I think are) chickadees on the lower patio. He's a big old softie. Although the chickens are under a covered run now, I do have a concern about when they start free ranging while they're out there since our yard is surrounded by tall firs and we do have a large wild bird population. I had never had to consider the wild birds as troublesome before.

Such a beautiful day! I'm going to get a few chores done around the house, then DH and I are headed out to Del's so I can get rodent proof cans to keep all the feed secure in our garage. It's a good day to clean out the coop and think about planting next week. I ordered some Omega 3 Chicken Salad Bar seed to line the planters outside the run. I'll be covering the planter boxes with our leftover hardware cloth. I'm excited to get that planted and growing so the girls can come out to dine!

ah. its another nice sunny day... back to planting seeds and working on plants for decorating the fruitstand.

I think since its still too early for flowers in the pots down there i will plant lettuce and radishes. then next month when they are ready they can be yanked and flowers can be planted.

I was going to yank out those raspberrie plants i planted last spring because they never grew and i thought they died... well i went up there and they are alive

with new shoots coming from the soil too. i guess i will plant the 2 black currants mom bought on the end then...

I need to clean up my white lavender plants... remove the dead twigs.... i wonder if they can be propagated by cuttings?
need to look in my textbook

which i have yet to study as planned...

The Purple Finches end up doing a considerable fraction of the pollinization in the apple orchard here. Which is good because I've seen narry a bee this spring, except for the giant clumsy Queen Bumblebees, as big and my thumb and as stupid as rocks.
