Spunky Teeny Little Super Guy! Size isn't everything.

Am seriously considering going back to bed. So depressed I can hardly move. Making funerary decisions; urns, caskets (old fashioned priest insists on body present for funeral mass will cremate afterward), prayer cards, readings, and Mr. H picks now to kick the poor, blind, old dog outside because of his accidents in the house. I don't have the energy to argue, just to worry about the poor old thing. Today is his birthday. He's 14.

Cheryl. what day did you set your eggs? I set mine on the afternoon of the 22nd, so counted the 23rd as day 1. So does that make lock down the same day as yours? Which would make day 21 May 13th? Holy cow. Glad that's my day off of work. So I can sit in front of the incubator and stare at it for hours. Better charge the camera so I can take some video and pics. I'm way too excited about this!

Almost done with the coop! 4 walls, a floor, roof, hardware cloth up over vents, nesting box just needs a lid, need to make a pop door, and re construct my people door...

I feel like this build is never going to end! And please please please tell me that it will be prettier once painted? Cause right now... Its an eye sore. BUT its water tight, will be predator proof once doors are on, has PLENTY of ventalation, and 8' of roost space. Thanks for my not so little, little brother for helping me get over my nesting box idea block! I couldnt have figured it out without him!

Now to just figure out this stupid door that no longer fits!!!

Guess Ill go look at pop door ideas and see what I can come up with. Im SO not looking forward to rebuilding that door though! Ugg

Oh how fun! Iv'e been moonlighting on the "Old Fashioned Broody" thread cause it is so cute to see the mamas and their chicks. I hope I get a broody someday! Congrats on your setters!

Oh she's setting alright! lol Just not on anything that has a chance of hatching. Poor mamma! two weeks on eggs that she refuses to let me take. I dont want to take them away, as she might not sit anymore, but Im afraid to stick some of the bator eggs under her yet. Oh what to do what to do? lol

I would LOVE to see her running around with a brood of chicks. I love seeing mammas with there babies! So adorable!

That is a dilemma - I don't know what I'd do! I've been reading about broodies in my Chickens for Dummies book just in case one day any of our girls goes broody because they wouldn't be setting on anything fertile either. So the question would be - can you place eggs that are ready to hatch under a broody? Hmm...

I set my eggs on the 21st of April. So I am counting the 22nd as day 1. And if my brain is working properly, that would put my babies due date on the 12th. Lockdown will start iether late night on the 9th, or early on the 10th. Lock down IS suposed to be 3 days right? lol

If my thinking is right your lockdown would start on iether late on the 10th or on the 11th. And yours should be due on the 13th!

Yeay for hatching buddies who keep me on track!

I'm so sorry. Such sad tasks for you to be responsible for. And I don't think I'd be happy about sending my old friend outside because of accidents either. Can he be confined with a soft bed to a room with linoleum or something similar that doesn't leave stains? Take care of yourself - whether it's tea and staring out the window, or going back to bed for a while. Some kind of "break" so you can shut down temporarily and rejuvenate before taking on another task?

Ive read about a bunch of swapped hatches, some go well some not so well. Unfortunately I am at a point of disapointment with these eggs, that once at lockdown, if she is still setting, I will give her a few, and I wont be overly sad if they dont hatch. This incubation period has gone VERY badly for me. 12 out of 30 have made it this far. Im still hopefull, and give the sniff test every 3 days when I add water, but Im refusing to hold my breath or count any chicks before they hatch and are up and kicking for 24 hrs. hopefully the surviving chicks will thrive, and I wont lose a bunch more.
