The eggs you gave me are hatching - 2 out and many pipped. Should have lots by tonight.
Also, did you see where I saw an ad for an Icelandic flock? I can get you the phone number if you want it.
Icelandic flock of???? sheep? i did see a craigslist add a few weeks ago.... but i would probably get kicked out of the house if i showed up with 2 sheep.... and to my knowledge i thought i was the only person in the state with icelandic chickens (eggs)
the last batch of my own flock of eggs hatched 100%. my brahma roo did good with these crosses... brahma/ blue andlusian? brahma/speckled sussex? brahma/ leghorn brahma/wellsummer brahma/ acona.
you think marking with a sharpie on their legs will be alright? i need a way to know the difference between my $$ eggs and my personal flock chicks in the brooder....
anyone know a way to get an assortment of leg bands? or if anyone has some?

I thought chickens only had one functioning ovary; the left one.
Must have heard them wrong... one ovary! (
)
So, I wonder why a hen would crow and lay? Interesting!
Well I did read somewhere that if you don't have a rooster sometimes a domonant hen will start taking on the role and sometimes the characteristics. But she isn't even the dominant hen. So I don't know. And I haven't heard her do it again. So maybe I imagined it? Not.
ETA- If you then get a rooster she goes back to being just one of the flock and he is the head honcho. That is what I am hoping for with my Ameraucana Cockerel. He is actually getting pretty cute with his girls. He has very different mannerisms when he is with them. Very fun to watch.
