. I got up from my nap and went out to let my two flocks run,Like I do every day. When I got out to the Barn, my 18 week old Austra White was out running loose by herself along the run

. I have clipped her wings. So I let all the girls out to run.

While they are free ranging I clean out the coops. I come out every 3-5 minutes to check the field for coyotes
tongue.gif
. While I was in the barn I heard my 15 yr. old German shepherd start to bark (she is deaf) I came running out and the coyote was right on top of my youngest flock. maybe two feet away and ten feet from me
barnie.gif
. I think we scared the heck out of each other
barnie.gif
he ran off about 25 yards and turned around to take another look. We have 3 or 4 coyotes in the area. But this young one isn't really to scared and he has been coming around almost every day. If it wasn't for my good old hound dog, that coyote would of had at least one of my girls
barnie.gif
. She will be getting a hunk of steak tonight

hugs.gif
. she sits by the barn everyday when my girls are out and keeps scanning the field for coyotes

Dogs are wonderful - I can't trust one of mine alone with the flock, but I keep them in a large run in the center of my fenced yard. Whenever a predator enters, they let me know! The only times I have lost chickens is when I have my dogs in my house to groom them. I now make sure to keep the hens in their secured runs if the dogs can't be there to keep them safe. I do have to keep BOTH dogs out as Willow, my old lady, will just sleep the day away in her cabin if Shasta is not there to annoy her!

Hey guys!

Just thought I'd pop in....

I've been miserable lately....and busy....my co-worker decided to take a 2-week vacation now since I'll be gone for three months on maternity leave--so I've been swamped at work. My entire body aches...it feels like my ribs are broken and my pelvis is falling into many pieces. My ankles are swollen to the size of cantaloupes. My boobs are leaking

and I haven't gotten a good night's sleep in over a week.

Only one month from TOMORROW and the baby will be here!

Unless of course, she decides to come a little sooner...I'm ready to not be pregnant any more.

We've been working on the nursery--or DH has. We got another coat of paint done (in "Golden Egg!"

) and new crown molding, a new light fixture, etc.

The crib:

Did I mention she's already spoiled?

Pile of clothes she's already amassed. I had to buy 50 baby hangers and I am not sure that's even enough!

Her cowboy boots, LOL:

The pile of misc. stuff in the closet:

The jogging stroller & swing (the swing is filled with a bunch of stuffed animals she's already got!)

The changing table with a bunch of diapers, bath time things, diaper rash stuff, a wipe warmer and more stuff!

I found her a dresser that we're picking up tomorrow and I'm having DH put up a shelf on the wall for all of the books I have for her.

I still have to get the nursery bedding & other decorations and I need to find a rug for in there...

And since I'm on a picture-kick....

My newest coop is done!

HELP!!!!

I just went out to check on my birds, and 3 of my 4 BCM chicks who are now almost 6 weeks old are attacking each other! Two had bloody heads, so I cleaned them up and sprayed them with blu-kote. They are still attacking each other! How do I stop it? and how do I get Blu-Kote off my skin?

Oh and before I waddle out to feed & collect eggs--

There is an ANIMAL BARTER FAIR here in Okanogan tomorrow from 9am -1pm! I just heard about it on the radio on my way home from work.

I am planning on going and (hopefully) selling a few chicks and my pair of American Buff Goslings....
