Well, I made it to the Fair and ended up getting a tour of the chickens from my second cousin Beau, the chicken whisperer. I am now thoroughly fired with the need to get better chickens in the hands of the local 4H and FFA kids, starting with finding Beau a SQ white Wyandotte bantam cockeral to go with his hens. I tried to sell him a BLRW cockerel, he tried to give me a batch of Sumatra chicks: If they'd been bantams I'd have jumped at the chance. There were a lot more chickens, cavys, rabbits and sheep, oh, my lord, sheep, than in years past, and dozens of meat goats.

I neglected to take any photos.

Oh, well, also I need a snack and my lunchtime insulin soon. I ate insufficiently there because it was too crowded and and much too hot for me.

Okay--here it is--this is for a HUGE batch...and this is the original recipe.

It can be modified for diabetics....by using Splenda and making your own cake mix....

12+ cups of fresh (washed) raspberries

2 boxes of yellow cake mix

1 cup of quick oats

1 cup of melted butter or margarine

1 TBS of cinnamon

1/2 TBS of nutmeg

1 TBS of granulated (white) sugar

3 TBS of packed, brown sugar

Preheat oven to 350

Grease the bottom of the pan

Pour the raspberries into the pan

In a separate bowl, mix cake mix, oats, cinnamon, sugar, nutmeg all together. Pour in melted butter. Mix with a fork until crumbly.

Pour the mix over the raspberries.

Bake 35-40 until the top is golden brown.

Serve with a large scoop of vanilla ice cream.

Sounds like Kaneke may be offering up a relay !!!

It sounded like the person with the very loud chickens lives about 10 minutes away from me. If we could decide on a day I might be able to get them a little further south. Sunday might work for me. DH and I were thinking of going to Yelm to the casino, but we could take a side trip.

Yum. That sounds worth saving. I'm looking for something good I can bake for my cast to bring them as treats. They're doing such an excellent job in rehearsals, (such beautiful voices!) that as their stage manager I like to reward them. Plus then I'll get to have a piece without the entire thing tempting me in my home!
Thanks RFF!

Nope I know that other than my BYC buddies birds everything else will be the same ol'e crap I saw 20 years ago. SWW fair is not into bringing in new attractions.I could tell ya everything that will be going on there. But on second thought I think I do have some room for some of those cute duckles of jbears.
