Our Jersey Giant has been wandering around our backyard for two days - fluffing up and chittering at everyone. I've had to lock her out of the coop - we don't want her to go broody again. She has already been once this year at the same time as our Australorp and hatched a lower percentage and stayed two less weeks. Now if our Australorp goes broody...I'll be ordering eggs

But she sure is being grumpy to the other girls! I finally had to put her in the pentalty box (small run) to stop picking on everyone, even her flock buddy!

In the midst of all this, we're tearing up the surface of our back deck and moving coops around. All the chickens are so happy to be able to get to the bugs that have been just out of reach! It's pretty cute

Yes, all those dairy farmers up there! My daughter in law's parents were some of them. They came over in the 1960's.

Hey guys! How is everyone? We almost lost our house AGAIN! Some guy working on the old school house in our backyard (putting on a new roof) flung a piece of metal roofing onto power lines which fell, sparked and caused a huge wildfire. Two years to the day of the last HUGE fire we had that we almost lost our home.

We had to RUN from the house it was moving so fast--which is hard when I'm still recovering from almost dying in childbirth and it was 90+ degrees out. We got all of the horses/dogs and one of the cats, the baby, diaper bag and stuff....we were out of the house for about 4 hours. There were helicopter drops and everything. Way too much excitement!
