Too funny! Right now my hens are rolling around in the sunshine in their dust baths, and not 20 feet away it is POURING! Not a drop is coming down on the hens, oddly the rain stops at the fence-line.

Hmmmm .............. I think I need to become a helicopter pilot.

Yeah....they broke down the bill to the gloves they used!

Although the alternative would mean I'd be dead....so I'm glad they had the helicopter available....but still....that's a lot of money.

You know, one of the great things about having my cousin's kids (the biker, not the guy who lives next door) work for me is that he learned a lot of his work habits from my dad, as did I, and both his daughter and son learned many of them from him: all I have to do is point, explain the goal, and make a few gestures and things get done, holy moly.

Such a freaking relief, I cannot tell you.

Oh, about cousins: my mother was the eighth of twelve kids, dad was the eldest of six. I have lots of cousins, I have more than one cousin who has great-grandchildren and the youngest child of any of my first cousins is seven. I have cousins the way other people have casual aquaintances. I may have forgotten to mention that earlier.

I have one sibling, and my husband is an only child. He seriously did not know what he was getting into.

Interesting stuff...........

We have been busy....working on the house, and today got a trailer load (free) of oyster shell & crushed shell mix & packed it into all pens...way better than packing gravel, free, and takes care of the slippery clay muck..and the birds love it.
I may see Stumpfarmer's sister Saturday, could not go on Thursday after all.
And I will have to get back to you all after a bit, there is still work to be done outside...

Keep me in mind for a pair of Cayugas if you end up with "extras".

he would have sent me a few doz eggs last spring but he said his birds just weren't laying hardly any...weird weather down in NorCal as well as here.
This spring I am hoping it all works out.
Either that, or by now he hates the Emus & will want us to come get them back!!!

I will keep you in mind.

Ugh!!!!!!!!
Horses are hard work, but maybe you will not have all that storm water in the stalls like last year..and hopefully not around the gate (the one that was over a pond)
I have been shoveling this:

Free, too!
I will go get another load tomorrow or the next day~

I'll go! Soccer has us quite busy, it's not over till Thanksgiving assuming they don't go to the Turkey Shoot this year. Maybe you can do a half-birthday party in May where you have half a cake, people bring half a dish and wear half their clothes....

The year my daughter turned 4, she broke her arm in 3 places a few weeks before her birthday. Her birthday is July 4, and we were camping at a beach with a bunch of older boys. No fun for a girl in a cast! we held an Un-birthday party for her in September. It was really cute - this is when she still believed in unicorns and tooth faries. She wanted unicorn rides at her party. I said mybe we could borrow the neighbor's white pony and put a horn on it. The conversation was something like this:

O: "No mom! They have to be real unicorns!"
Me: " but where will I find them?"
O: "They live in the mountains near our house. You have to go up there at night and sing to them. When they hear you they will come to see you and then you have to catch them with a big net. It works best if there is a full moon."
Me: "But there will be no more full moons between now and your party"
O (without missing a beat): "Alex lost his tooth, it will be under his pillow tonight. That means the Tooth Fairy will be here. I'm sure if you put $20 under his pillow with the tooth, she will catch the unicorns for you."

Oh for crying out loud, surely you can handle this Ogress!!!!!!!!

My daughter at that age was convinced rocks were thee best things in life, and all were a living & breathing thing.......and she would sneak hundreds in and put them in 5 gallon buckets in her room, the loft over the kitchen (16 feet X 12 feet) in our cabin I built in Idaho.
One day I discovered all the rocks, and Lisa was so upset that I would 'kill' them all!
L: No Mommie you cannot throw them outside!
Me: But they will die in the house, it is too warm with the woodstove going!
L: Oh, you are probably right...
And she helped me carry all the rocks out & arrange them in a living diorama in the flower beds outside.

That CAN happen to CMs.but honestly, all the ones I have are laying very dark eggs.
They do that in the beginning at POL.
When they first start laying fart eggs, however, you can get weird coloration from day to day, as in this egg:

Remember?
It as if the paint shop isn't quite up & running yet....
