Make sure he is up to date on all his shots, including a distemper booster & leptosporosis.
We have alot of lepto incidents out here from wild critters.

I dunno, but I'm pretty sure chickens don't actually care about luxury, as such.

I know, right? It is nice, but $3000? I think that one will be around for a long time. My DH would have a fit if I asked for something like that! We can build something for so much cheaper. Maybe not quite as nice, but the chickens don't seem to care as long as they are fed, have a comfortable place to sleep. The other stuff is for my convenience.

Raccoons are scary, no doubt. I'd rather run across a coyote, who trust their legs in most confrontations where raccoons stand and fight.

On the other hand, my hired hand (the computer lady's daughter) was getting on 101 at Evergreen Parkway last night and had to wait for a mama bear and two cubs to walk across the on-ramp.

There was a much more interesting coop- a modern multi-piece one that was built for a sloping lot- that started at $2000 last spring. It either sold or got taken off the market at $1250.

$3000 isn't "quit your job" money, but it is more than I'd put out in a lump sum for anything that wouldn't appreciate over time (minus automobiles, but they fail the "lump sum" test).

Fortunately, we have just had both dogs in for all of their shots this summer, including leptosporosis.

I think a chicken does not care if it costs $30 or $30000...they are still going to poop on/in it.

It is nice though...but too spendy for me.

I didn' make it. I will definitely see you in Monroe in the spring though. I also plan on doing more shows next year....I had too much going on here that I had to attend to.

Miss Whitey Ford may not be the prettiest chicken and even when she's not broody she is easily the meanest and bossiest, perhaps "grumpiest" of the bunch. But I will say she has turned out to be a remarkably attentive and protective mother. I am still amazed by her standing in the middle of the yard calling for help while the 5 chicks and 7 big girls were all hiding from the hawk a week ago, then running for cover with the chicks as soon as she saw me there to cover for them.
That was really impressive. Smart? Maybe not, but incredibly instinctual.
