I dunno, but I'm pretty sure chickens don't actually care about luxury, as such.

I think a chicken does not care if it costs $30 or $30000...they are still going to poop on/in it.

It is nice though...but too spendy for me.

He expects to get that for that? It isn't even insulated!

Make sure he is up to date on all his shots, including a distemper booster & leptosporosis.
We have alot of lepto incidents out here from wild critters.
best of luck!

Fortunately, we have just had both dogs in for all of their shots this summer, including leptosporosis.

Dana, your chicks are old enough now, that if you post pictures, Illia could sex them for you ...

she's pretty well ID-ed Dawn's ... Julia's are still too little, though the tail-and-feathers-development has already yielded clues

There's still a bear season in the Capital Forest, which is, what, ten minutes from there via Cedar Flats road?

I'm never surprised to hear that a bear has been anywhere (there was one sighted swimming from Preist Point to the radio station a few years ago, and I've seen bear scat on the slope behind the Capitol Campus) just that someone actually saw one: they aren't much interested in interacting.

I tried to take photos of them yesterday but with the camera phone couldn't get close enough plus they are way too fast. I'll have to get out there with my good camera and the telephoto lens sometime today. Boy did they grow in a week! DH said, "we left chicks and came home to 5 more chickens"

Well, 35.6 here overnight, that explains the cold, cold feet. I cooked up the last of the Bob's Red Mill oatmeal from Cash and Carry and will feed it to the chooks when I get dressed.

Feels like deer season; Dad always took us for a picnic up on Vail Tree Farm the weekend before the first day of hunting season, and we'd play in the woods near the car while he went out and scouted deer sign. One cold rainy Sunday when I was maybe seven and my sister five, we sat in the car and played with our new puppy while Mom read to us, and watched a weasel chase a rabbit more than twice its size up and down the logging road next to where we parked eventually one of them won, or the weasel got tired.

The chickens deserve warm oatmeal on a day like this.

ETA: But that's not what I came here to talk to you about today. I came here to ask why it is that chicks want to sleep in their food dish.

All nine of them.

Which makes actually eating a real challenge.

It's nice to know that I am not the only person to miss the comma.

I think it would be very sad to have slow chickens. I wonder if the poor little slow chicken would get picked by the smarter and faster chickens?

Are you sure it shouldn't be a colon or semi colon?

ugh, thanks for reminding me, we need to take the old motorhome over to the dump station and empty the holding tanks before it freezes

blow out the water lines too

NOT my most favorite chore -- usually we dump it after we get back from volunteering at the air races, but we didn't go there this year ... good thing too, as it is always horrendous to watch friends getting killed or injured ... our guardian angel was watching over us, since we often have been assigned the duty of standing at the access point right where the P-51 crashed

lucky too, that the other volunteers that drew that assignment, managed to shield themselves from the flying debris, and were on hand to assist those who were injured (that's the gate where a couple of fire trucks and ambulances are normally parked)

Smart chickens? Isn't that an oxymoron?

Yesterday, I went out to the backyard because there was a big commotion going on. Dolly had gotten herself to the wrong side of the fence, and couldn't figure out how to get back. Everyone on this side of the fence was alarmed for her. Fortunately, she wasn't too hard to catch, but I need to figure out how she got out.

That was a close call, but close only counts in horse shoes and hand grenades. Take a deep breath. Have a cup of tea or a glass of wine.
