Me too! I asked for DE and they just stared at me, so I had to try to say it and then they looked at me like I was a moron. And when I asked for food-grade, they said, "there is only one kind", real snotty-like, so I got a huge bag, probably 50 lbs, and I am sure it is the wrong thing. Dang it! Glad I wasn't the only one who felt like an idiot!

Bills Country Farm and Feed in Enumclaw carries the food grade DE in 50lbs bags. I buy it that way. They may not know about the pool grade. I would think that the pool grade stuff would say something about pools and filters on the bad. The food grade doesn't mention use that way. What store did you buy your bag at?

At Del's in Auburn. How would I know if it is the right stuff? I just went out and looked at it and it says Perma-Guard Fossil Shell Flour. Also says Food something something Grade (I should have taken a pen and paper, lol), so I guess it is the right stuff? It is a 50 lb bag that is brown like a grocery bag. I haven't used much of it for fear that it was the wrong thing.

OK so here is todays update. Sorry for being so late but needed to make a few of these contacts personally first. Cloverleaf showed up about noon. This had been planned since last week. She brought a black/lav pullet and 2 lav Am B hens and one has a new blue chick. When I took her to the coop they would be in she looked in and said here's an egg.

That is our first egg from the 2 that I brought home from Stevenson. Yes they are CLF so that was even cooler. Just went to check on everybody and tuck in. Guess what there was another egg in the Am B coop. Jeanine also delivered a "care package" from another BYCer. The anon work crew showed up and stacked all the wood I had. Then one of them said my 2 sons will be here at 8 saturday and do the rest plus anything else you need. I also got some help in the mail from my BYC BUDDIES . You are all great. I am just overwhelmed. I have no idea how to express my appreciation.
I will say thank you but it is no where near enough.
Ok I think you have done enough for me and it will all work out from here.

I feel compelled to tell you that there are very few of the same people on here that were here when I first started. But the one thing I see that has stayed the same since I first joined. WA BYCers are awesome.
I love my BYC BUDDIES you know who ya are.

Glad to help - I can't remember the brands we tested as I was not involved in that aspect other than to make tests, but if you look up brands sold in Germany, hopefully those companies will use the same product here. I know there is a company with "sun" somewhere in the name that is out of Utah, and Centrum rings a bell as well, but there are many more.

Awww she looks so cute and snuggly. I loved sleep sacks. Bought them for my daughters and they thought they were weird, but once they tried them, they loved them for their babies! Audrey is such a cutie. Hope she doesn't feel crummy and keep you up tonight from the shots.

I miss baby smiles! You never have to guess when they are content. My babies have attitudes now, and when there is a smile on one it is usually at the expense of the other.

I've never had luck with USPS paying even a dime on my insurance claim. It was not chicken related. I hope you have far better luck that I did.

That's one of the (many) reasons I don't like to ship lives.

Good luck and let us know what happens...I'm curious...because I was always under the impression they do not insure live animals??

That's terrible!! Poor chick chicks!!!

I like your coop. I keep thinking I need to get a windshield like CR used for his coop to light the A-frame ones, but don't want to have to go to a junk yard to find one.

Maidenhair ferns are absolutely gorgeously iron-tough survivors; my favorite memory is Palouse Falls, where maidenhair grow in the splash zone, in black basalt, facing SW so that they are in full blasting sun at least part of the day all year.
