I broke down and brought the girls inside. They are now happily installed in the mud room with the parrot and the pigeon. They're separated from the kitchen by a dutch door, and the top of the door is open.

I fully expect to have chickens running around the house in the morning!

Another Olympian, hi there! Can you put the chicken back in when it gets dark and block the hole somewhat? Maybe she likes being outside?

DH shoved her in last night with a long stick- They are in a 'chicken ark' coop, really hard to reach the box from the open end- major design flaw in my opinion. the other two weren't happy, but she stayed in all night!

Chook Chick glad to meet a fellow Oly!!

I have 2. One barred rock and one black sex-link. I figured they would have been fine with the snow, but I know it's supposed to get into the teens somewhere along the line. With just the two of them in their converted doghouse, I was a little worried. If I had more, I wouldn't be so paranoid! (Sounds like a good excuse to get MORE chickens!!!)

You're probably more wise than I am. I figured the girls would be fine, maybe even like it, but I just opened their coop a few hours ago and they are NOT coming out. They are sitting on the roost and in the nesting box. I put fresh hay in their run yesterday, thinking it might insulate it a bit, but they want nothing to do with this strange white stuff....

...the sky is falling, the sky is falling, the sky is falling!!!...

Is the Winter Brisk open till 6 pm or only till noon? (Jenspeep mentioned it closed at noon). I'm still working on the hubby now that it has warmed up a bit, even though, yesterday he said I should just stick a fork in his neck and twist it (less painful and saves the drive!). Husbands...you gotta love them!

Boy, those are some spoiled chickens! All inside!

My poor babies are toughing it out in the snow and freezing weather. Some of them decided to go sleep inside... but not all.

I hear the first year ones are cautiously stepping though it, while the veterans are just running about chillin on the hay bales by the garage a few hundred feet from the coop.

Still waiting for my brother to send me pics of this year's snow and chickens. It's 3 inches deep I hear.

Mine are pretty tuff chickens. They are back in the wood coop as there they would be warmer at night. They spend the whole day out there in the snow then I have to pluck them off the fence to put them in the coop. They were sitting out in the snow on the fence tonight.

Also we have a rooster. Not really sure which one it is because it is sneaky when I am around it just makes a growling sound but we have heard one crow but it came out as a croak. I think we will keep it around. No laws here in Olalla saying we can't have em so as long as it behaves it can stay or become chicken dinner.

Ok, my chickens are a bunch of WIMPS!!
We didnt even get a dusting of snow today, and all the wimpy spoiled chickens where huddled up to the back door tapping on the glass like they where going to die or something .....and there coop stood not even 10 feet away with the door wide open, a fresh layer of pine, fresh food, water, and the windows had all been wiped down. (I even thought about turning on the heater in the coop for them tonight...but didnt).

Sheeesh, if we get any snow those chickens of mine will be waltzing right int the back door with me when I do out for wood!

Gopherboy,
Just got distracted by your coop thread... what a great coop and great sense of humor! Looks like you guys back up to a park... just lovely!

I know what you mean, Lacey, my silver laced cochin didn't leave the coop once today. The other two ventured... a bit... but as you know, we didn't get much snow. HA!
