Just wondering, is anyone planning on going to the Evergreen state show or whatever its called in Monroe in April-ish? We have always heard its a fun show but can never go for one reason or another but we are gonna go. And an advantage is that we have a friend in Lake Stevens that we can stay with.
O and we are getting Icelandic sheep from chick weed farms. I am going to do chores for the lady and get sheep as payment. She said that for as much winter work that she has that payment will probably be 2 bred ewes and a young ram. I am excited because they are tri-purpose (milk, meat, wool) and the lady is going to have me help her with shearing and processing the wool and also spinning yarn. When we get them I am going to try and make cheese, feta and ricotta are made from sheeps milk.
Anyone else have sheep?

Yeah. I've bred 17 ewes this fall so should start lambing in March.

We take our border collie down to Albany in Oregon for herding training. He has all Icelandic sheep. All I can say is that they are wooly buggers. They are so tiny compared to ours, though. My 6 month old lambs are as large as his ewes.

Who, me? I drive a 2004 Honda Civic but commute by bus to/from Seattle.

To heck w/ driving! Yuck yuck yuck! I drive as little as possible to Seattle b/c it takes way longer than taking the bus, plus I can't be productive (unless you consider piloting a chunk of metal without hitting things productive).

I was thinking about it, but the Spring Fair in Puyallup is much closer to Tacoma than is the one in Monroe. It's also in April.

Who's getting ready for the Big Freeze this weekend?

(insert dramatic music & flashy newscast promo here)

I'm trying to figure out what to do with the girls, especially their water needs. They might get a pen in the garage for overnight if it gets too cold. I have to figure out the water situation. Someone (MP, I think) posted an idea for lights in a Christmas cookie tin w/ the waterer on top of that.

What are other Washingtonians doing?

I am so not ready for it, they say that Spokane might get down to -10 and since we are further north we are always about 5 degrees colder. Its crazy, its in the 30's then just drops to single digits. As far as waterers go we have 2 big metal ones that we rotate through the day when it gets so cold. For the pheasants and ducks I have the rubber bowls for larger critters, the ice just pops right out.

This morning I woke up to freezing rain so we went into town and it was raining. We left town at around 12 and started seeing cars with snow on them. We stopped at the feed store and were there for maybe 20 mins and it started snowing. We decided to go home the long way through chatteroy and it seemed that the closer we got to Deer Park the more snow there was. Right now we have about 3-4 inches.

I'm not sure what to do- one of my girls has been getting pushed out of the sleeping area at night, and I'm afraid she's going to freeze the weekend! I might have to bring her inside until I can modify their coop- just a small arc, supposed to hold 3, (evidently they don't care).
As far as the Chehalis show, I want to go if the weather's moderately cooperative- y'all think there'll be enough to see for this newbie? We've just started with chickens, and I'm not sure what to expect... Should I just wait for the Puyallup fair?

Another Olympian, hi there! Can you put the chicken back in when it gets dark and block the hole somewhat? Maybe she likes being outside?

Dang it! No way I can talk the hubby into a chicken show now--he just laughed at me his morning! Nothing happening here yet, though there is that "feel" in the air. I have cabin fever already and I probably won't be able to work next week, aaaarghhh.

Hi all,

I definitely did not take the time to read all 93 pages, but I'm another Washingtonian. I live in Vancouver, WA with my DH, DD, DS, Beagle, Tabby Cat, 2 Degus (new as of yesterday), and 3 pullets.

I told the kids to dream of snow tonight. I'm dying to see some GOOD snow fall around here. Its been YEARS!

...let it snow, let it snow, let it snow....
