Wow, sorry !
Is there some way to net over & give you some peace of mind & chicken security ?
Birds of prey are terrified of being ensnarled in nets & wire...if at all possible they avoid it.
Quite a few times we have seen folks run 50# monofilament back & forth over a fish pond or bird run to scare off birds.
We called it the "no fly zone" and it quite clear so did not make the yard look so weird.
Hope you find a way to safety!
Yesterday we saw 2 adult baldies & 2 juveniles circling....so it is a matter of time here as long as I let my birds free range.
The big eagles usually buzz the place & move on...I am sure they see the nets.
Only birds with no nets is my turkeys, and there is no eagle that can pick one of them up.
At first sight of any over head bird, ALL the roosters sound the alarm and ALL the birds hide.
Hope you figure out a way!!

Well it has been another no night crew night !!
Where has the night crew been ????????????
ALL of them are missing....get sucked up in Eenie's flying saucer ????????

Well I guess I will go work on house plans...

That's what happened to the B WL the kids named Dovie. My DD and I got to witness the hawk pounce her and fly off with her while they were free ranging! Mad and sad!

CL - are you doing the plans by hand? If so, next time you come over, bring them with you. I have this super program, by Chief Architect called home Designer pro. Hubby used it to design out shop and studio. I used it to design the new decks, and boy, you can barely tell the real thing from the illustrations. It can also do a walkthrough, so you get an idea of traffic flow. And renderings.

This is one idea for my kitchen remodel - not yet completed (can't change the size of the room or where the windows are so I'm a bit limited in what I can do)

stupid hawk, we have a lot of juvenile ones here and they do not bother the chickens in the summer, its winter and game is scarce for them so I am sure that is the only reason he thought it a good idea to have chicken dinner. I will get the big netting, like fishing net stuff, and hang over the top of the outdoor run. they also have an indoor run that has a door so they are all locked in there right now. there is a guy in startup that sells used fishing nets, he makes hammocks and all sorts of stuff out of them. hopefully they are not an arm and a leg. otherwise I found a place on the net that sells them. you should have heard the ruckus this morning. Larry was screaming and my two oldest hens were also calling out loudly, everyone was hitting the dirt and hiding when he flew off the fence. Larry may be little but he is mighty lol. just ticks me off is all...

Now I am no designer and hate working with sticks (wood) but here is an idea ya may wanna think about. See the cupboard above the fridge? Now most people have that is it really very useful? Pretty high for most to reach. BUT think about use the same style but make it a drawer and put it UNDER the fridge. We did this in the neighbors house and it works well. Just an idea.

the only use I have ever found for a cupboard over the fridge...cram stuff in there you dont know what to do with then never look at it again lol. its kind of like a junk drawer

I have all the design pretty much done....it is one big barn.
The bearing wall down the center holds a staircase on 1 side, bath beneath...and now just looking at what kind of windows & doors we want.

So far, I still cannot find the doors & windows I want...lots of fancy stuff out there though !!

I always used mine for fancy smancy stuff we only used on Holidaze, like the candles/candle holders crystal candy dishes & stuff like that.
I do not like a kitchen stuffed full of upper cabinets....too claustrophobic.
I prefer openess, and all my stuff under the counter with a few display shelves above, for spices & toys.
Pretty Stuff you do not want the grandkids to get into

Hey CL on those dirty hive frames. FYI I had some that were dirty like yours. I tried hot water scrub brush, and pressure washer no go so I just figured I would put them in and let the bees clean. NOPE not gonna touch that They will build all around but not do anything with the dark stuff.
