I couldnt believe it either lol. I really am not mean to my animals but I am not going to be walking around backwards because of a rooster that I pay to feed. after our initial battle I would chase him away from the girls and not let him come near on occasion. if he was respectful when I went out there I would make sure to throw the good treats to him so he could share it with his girls. and it was spring like 4Hmom said, Roosters are not always stupid, they can figure out that picking a fight with you ends badly, but I see a lot of them that never figure that out lol

I had to carry a shovel with that nasty mean RIW I had...........even the hens would jump & spur and they LOVED to grab a hunk of your forearm & twist so I ended up with plyer-like bruises and sometimes hunks of meat missing !
That Cock would NOT back down!
After smacking him with a shovel (and trying to get out of the pen backwards) he would come at us again & again...I finally resorted to kick boxing....and then Freezer Camp.

best place for him!!! I love my orp girls, they are so nice to be around. most of the roos are too but once in a while as with any breed, they forget. I hate when they grab you like that, that is what Hoss did to me from behind, left a beak shaped knot on my thigh. freakin hurt!

 We have like 3/4".

Hmmm. . . I have a nice heated, insulated coop and run that is predator proof if anyone needs it. :gig

Mia, how big is it ?

Julia (Stumpfarmer) will be taking care of my flock while we are on Maui for a couple of months, and i promised to build a coop and run there for them

but if it's transportable, would LOVE to buy or borrow your coop and run

all I have to lug anything with, is my old Isuzu Trooper, and a 3-1/2 x 7-1/2 light utility trailer (could be a 4 x 8 if we take off the sides and strap things to it

alternatively, do you mean you have a coop and run that will stay at your place, and you are offering accommodations rather than offloading the coop?

if so, would YOU be up to chicken-sitting instead? Julia is a dear to offer to take them for me, however I worry that she is almost at physical capacity as it is, for her OWN chickens ....

but if he comes at me again with that kind of aggression, then it’s off to Camp Kenmore.

I love it I haven't ever heard that before.

snow??? gee, we got only a dusting of it -- a little bit yesterday about sunset; a little bit sometime during the night

so half our yard has NO snow on it (the oak trees caught it before it hit the ground) and the rest has only intermittent snow, which is NOT aesthetic, looks like the yard has the pox ....

DH is mad because the snow and resultant ice, means he cannot go fly at Olympia; the runways there are closed until they clear off

so he's rooting for the Houston Texans (NFL football playoffs)

my run is silver-tarped, not chickenwired, and from the loft, I can see a couple of icy puddles on it, and a smidgen of snow surrounding those, but the PVC poles holding it up are pretty sturdy -- I think the chickens would like to get out and free range, but I'm not in condition to sit outdoors

old fashioned diagnosis pretty well sums it up: catarrh !! =( :sick :tongue

(with a little associated pink-eye)

thank goodness for garlic, cranberry juice, aspirin, Miracell, and Allerclear ... without those I'd probably rather die
