 We have like 3/4".

Hmmm. . . I have a nice heated, insulated coop and run that is predator proof if anyone needs it. :gig

ulp !! of course, what was I thinking ??? maybe we should all go kidnap that nasty neighbor of yours, or buy her place, deed it to you, and you could easily have the chickens on the double lot ... (wishful thinking of course)

Very interesting. I did not know this. Thank you for the wonderful information. I would feel bad for the Omega though. Poor boy.
I've got an Omega here. Kaneke's cockerel is afraid of all the girls and they never let him get near the treats. They don't pick on him necessarily, but he certainly doesn't get to join in any reindeer games.

But I can't take credit ... I saw it on another BYC post ...
I've dug out my old tennis racquet. I've got my denims on and my garden gloves at hand. I've got my cell phone in my pocket in case I have to call 911. I'm going out to the chickens now - wish me luck!

So I went in the coop and Rocky didn't back up. I tried to herd him into the dog crate with the tennis racquet but he pushed past it. Then he flew at my face. Fortunately, he was off balance from dodging the tennis racquet so he came in on my left. And since my backhand was never any good, I punched him.
That gave me some breathing room to refill the water. And the weenie was hiding in the corner behind some of the girls - but at least he didn't come at me.
He's sooooo gone.

hate to say it but sometimes you have to play football/soccer to get them to realize that you are the boss.... carrying them upside down by their legs and laying them on the ground in front of the girls also stabs at their egos..... some people think its all mean or cruel, but there isn't really reasoning with a chicken and those people have never been attacked by a rooster to know why.
