No power here. Us and animals are warm dry. Lots of limbs and trees down. The run collapsed but I free range and none of them will go outside anyway right now.

Icky about the power outage, hopefully it will be back on soon. They have been pretty good about the power over on this side. Will you be able to get the run back up and "running" ?

So Clover.....seen or heard from Birdnbeasts lately ?
Is she OK ?
I have not heard from her for 3-4 days~~~

I got the downed & snowed on netting all cut off, balled up & tossed in the garbage......through the 6" of margarita slush.

Barely kept from slipping...
Got 3 coop poop trays cleaned of 2" thick of poop

Almost had ammonia~~~~~~not good for birds at all !
So 4 coops of birds are out right now...first time in 4 days & all are fine.

Got 3 more coops to clean........poop trays only but had to come in & warm up as mittens were all soaking wet with ice water from the netting...feets is hurting dispite the warm boots as when hands get cold, feet & hands BOTH turn blue & blood is cut off when you have Raynaud's..........soaking in warm water is extremely painful but the only way to warm up.

Now, to get ready for the 50 MPH winds..........

Haven't heard from her...have you sent a regular email? I can call her...

i am letting my friends know they need a small game animal permit and they can stake out the chicken coop. the bobcat has to be sealed and given to fish and game.

If I were closer, I'd come get them for you!!

reart, to answer your earlier Q about dual purpose birds & such.
My answer is no.
I butcher cull birds for stew birds only & we do have lots of soup.
As far as a good chicken on the barbie, we ordered the "ba-be-que special" from Murray McMurray & got 25 cornish cross chicks for average of $1.25 each.
We raised them up to 7 8 weeks for cockerels & let the pullets go to 9 weeks and butchered them all out.
They are the best tasting & tenderest birds we have ever had, mostly raised on free range & feed controlled so they do not sit there & gorge.
Given "broiler booster" in their water to ensure enough vitamins so not leg problems...they ran around happy til the very end.
A project for late spring & summer temps so the birds can be out on pasture.
Ours hardly had a Tablespoon of fat on them.
After stewing one in a pot of water, I can scrape off 1 tablespoon of fat compared to the greasey fattty store bought birds...YUCK.
If you want a meat bird, cannot beat the Bar-Be-Que Special.
I intend to do 50 next summer...they are just too good and we have 4 left in the freezer...it will kill me to buy a nasty stor bought bird.
Hope that answers the question.

Greg Richardson, talked to Royce lately ?
Wondering how he is doing.
Knowing Royce as much as I do, I imagine he has it all running smoothly.
Most hunters/outdoorsmen & campers have all the stuff to get by during a storm.

Now just to learn how to take care of them at that point.- (butchering) - The DW won't be able to do it, so I will have to learn the score from start to finish.
