Unless you have a BIG "lawn tractor" You will probablly be disapointed. They just aren't heavy enough to do much with a blade and they tend to get stuck pretty easy so you would need to plan to put tire chains on too. Best would be a med size tractor with loader and or back blade.

The dang inspectors are good for nothing. They would not allow the drainfield to be logically placed downhill from the septic tanks, and then they signed off 3X on the system, never catching that the pipes were not connected between the house and the tanks. We moved in before the house was done, basement was still being worked on, but sealed from the rest of the house to control the dust. Sewage backed up and came out the basement shower. Builder came and yelled at Alex who was 3 at the time for flushing toys down the toilet (which he did not do!). My friend was here landscaping at the time and quietly opened a tank and noticed it was completely dry. He then took his backhoe and dug to show the builder that there were no pipes from the house to the tank! I hate having a septic pump. We have not yet had problems with it, but I remember the 8 day outage (our generator worked then) and all the neighbors had to use our toilets because their tanks were overflowing! Having the ability to flush and shower during a power outage is a nice thing. Everyone bought generators after that, but nearly everyone must have gotten rodent nests, because I did not hear a single generator in my neighborhood this week! Everything was dark.

He is an idiot, I could have done better with my wee desk & T-square here, and I know so could have WA4-HPoultryMom who is also architecturely trained.
The issue is that every egress door you have is blocked, and that should have been STOPPED by the permit inspectors.
I saw it instantly when I was there in summer.
The guy has to be a flaming idiot !

YeeHaw! 91 hours and we just got power at 3am. I put the eggs in the bator that I had by the fire the last 3.5 days and when I did I was floored at what I heard. I heard peeps from the marked eggs due the 24th. I can not believe it. I guess turning them buy the fire and loving them made them live. All the chicks and young birds are back out in their pens. We are getting ready for the next round coming through today sometime. HighWinds are expected. Thanks everyone for the happy thoughts and prayers.
I was able to read everything posted and you were all so kind with warm thoughts. CR you are such a nice guy who cares about us all. You were calling people and finding out if thet needed help or were safe. How lucky we all are to have one another. God is good!

My eyes hurt and my brain is numb from trying to sleep on the couch and watching chicks and keeping them warm in the cold. I was able to take pictures when we were down. I was able to hatch 25+chicks in 91 hours in my pockets, down the shirt and tucked everywhere. Every time I hatched one it gave me hope for the next one to make it. I counted a total of 5- 2 month old that I lost and 11 day to week old and I tell you, that aint bad. I did toss some eggs because I had only had them in the bator a week but kept at least 200 by the fire and turned hourly. I can now sleep in my own bed. Last time was Tuesday. I hope you all are safe, warm and dry and did not have a lot of loss or damage. We were lucky that once we got the generator we had tv and a light or two. Didnt loose anything in either fridge or the freezer or the outside barn fridge. Again, Thank you all for good thought my way.

Then you know you are board when....

I was so upset FOR you and worried for you. The ones that hatched in your pocket, etc....will they hold an extra special place in your heart? if you didn't have like 50+ of them you could name them all after storm things. I dunno, something creative - but memorable. Glad to see you are back and things are going well.

The Problem with Cast Iron

When you learn how to properly use a cast iron pan of any type, the tendency is to want to use it a LOT!

One learns to cook fried chicken, and then moves on to more exotic foods, like fried Rabbit. Or maybe even fried alligator, or frog legs!

My fave right now is a sort of hash brown, made with shredded carrots, onions, sweet potato and regular potato. By adding veggies, you cut down a bit on starch, it adds great flavour, but unfortunately, you are still cooking in oil, even if you use EVOO, it's still oil.

Oh, that I ever got started. I used to eat steamed food in Stainless, but now it's all cast iron cooking.

And, you can make the most wonderful popovers in CI. And bread, but that's not fried.

I keep telling myself I'm only using it until I'm old and can no longer lift the pan, but that's reallynot true. Sometimes I tell myself it's so I get the iron that leaches out, and I don't have to take iron pills. But that's not true either. And trying to exercise my bad arm (rotator cuff issues) is really a load of tosh too.

Truth is, fried food is just so darn tasty (and so easy to cook).

Therefor, I'm recommending to BYC'ers

Stop Using Cast Iron until you are old! (by that time, you won't be able to hold a big pan anyway!) (Stay slim!)

You are such a kick in the head girl!!!!I

inherited all my Grandmother's beloved and very old CI...she was 96 when she died in 2002.......and it was a big part of her dowry, to have proper pans to cook with.
This during the WWs we had & the Blitz....iron was scarce.
For a bride to-be to have a beautiful cast iron and was ready to make meals for her intended was a big plus.
Great gramppa gave his blessing, and let Rayford C Davis of Idaho take off with Gladys Rideout...........in West Plains MO.
What was Grandpa doing out there at the time?
Well, story says he was working as a grave digger as the silver mines in North Idaho were closed up.
Times were hard in the depresssion.and here they came down a dusty road in MO and there was the most beautiful young maiden about the mail box at the farm~and granpa let her go.
And that is the story ! Off they went went her dowry of cast iron & a real coffee pot & so many warm quilts GGrandma had made.La
ter, when Grandma was 94 I left Idaho to go to CA to care for her, and after 2 years she succombed to a stroke, while I fed her lunch.she had massive RA, and had to give away all her CI in the 60s and she the best fried chicken & gravy cook in the world !
I remember as a 5 year old going to see Grandma & Grandpa........and catching catfish.
And grandma cooked it right up crispy for me !
Ask any body now if they remember food when they were 5 years old !
I remember looking forward to the long trip to their home for Grandma's fried chicken & gravy!
Green bean & new potatoes with bacon !!!!!!
Oh I am carrying on & going way back now~~~~~~~~~~

Welcome to the new folks ~ bunch of nice peeps here.

And a huge thank you to WA4H.. for taking The Girls. I miss them terribly but they have such a good home, it eases some of the heartbreak a lil..

Hi Jen. Hey, the 3 voltron eggs that I hatched...the white one (I believe) is a cockerel. The other 2 are pullets. They sure are looking nice.
