I have a question. I have a gorgeous Welsummer cockerel (8+ months, NOT hatchery stock) who is aggressive towards me. He's ok if I carry a stick into the pen. :) I am keeping the pullets as they are excellent layers and I love the dark spotted eggs. I have no plans anymore to raise Wellies. I don't need him. Is it worth it to try and rehome him - yes I would say he's aggressive - or should I just plan on having him for dinner next Sunday? My vote is for dinner but he might be an excellent protector and daddy if
he was free ranging.

This is a picture of him. That's not white on his feathers. It's a flash reflection.

He is very beautiful!
Unfortunately he may get more agressive.
The agression came to him by way of his mother, who had to be a mean hen.
If you hatched eggs from him they should be fine, unless the hens are his sisters.
It is the hens who carry the mean gene & pass it to their sons.
I would cull him....unless you want to show him, he is a good looking boy!

HUH?
No, I just get outraged every so often when some of this political/government poop comes up that we have to ask permission to protect our family & property?
From a grizzly Bear?
Are they insane ?
What on earth was that man supposed to do?
Let the bear eat all his livestock and his family?
call the "authorites" and sit & waite?

He was way way way out in the wilderness...he had no time to waite & made his choice to protect what was his, and now he gets fined & 2 years in prison ?
THAT makes me VERY angry!!
Ok I'll shut up now, and what is APN ???

Its sad when honest people get in trouble for doing the right thing.

Welcome Zoichick & beautiful photo!!
I have spent many summers in Grass Valley, Marysville, Stanislaus & clear into Yosemite.........childhood stomping grounds.
probably Ogress has as well.
Beautiful!

Sorry but aggressive rooster = freezer camp.

Aggressive males don't make the best free range flock protectors either, honestly. They're just a danger to people, kids, other/small pets, and can sometimes end up aggressive towards hens or chicks.

Thanks ChickieLady. It's fun visiting home vicariously. Of course. The two Marysville's. One just down the hill from us and the one on the Tulalip Reservation in Washington.

The one with the snow is in your neck of the woods. We have no snow at our elevation. Not until about 5000 ft
We'll get ours in March if not sooner.
Back to Lurking for awhile. :pop :thumbsup :clap

Zoichick planning puppies instead of chickies.

I guessed Salmon Faverolle (5 toes/feather legged/single comb) X Icelandic (crested).......

Finally a normal day here! Kids all back in school and DH back at work! Gotta go grocery shopping and to the feed store and replenish the supplies.
Hope everyone is doing well!

OH! And lockdown tonight on my Serama eggs! Hoping we fared as well as RedRooster did!!!!
