Welcome to all the newbies!
I have fallen behind, and quite frankly dont have the energy to sit on my butt and read through some 100 pages or more.
Thought I would let you all know that I am still alive and healthy. Baby is healthy and kickin the crud out'ta me. I dont have a whole lot to contribute to the thread so Ive been a random lurker. I am SO very ready for a day off, havn't had one in over 400 days, yes I do keep track. Im definately slowing down in the third trimester.
The past two weeks have been incredibly busy with horse injuries. First it was my cousins mare, she stepped on a nasty rusty 16-p nail, went right through the soft tissue of her heal. entered through the frog and almost penetrated out the top of her heal. Luckily it managed to miss all the ligaments and tendons, so just a nasty wound that needed flushing twice daily. That was almost a trip out to Pillchuck.
THEN last week one of the gedings at the barn I manage, somehow managed to step on his sheath and rip a 2" flap open on the inner sheath... Had the vet out, got both topical and feed through meds, and now I get to scrub the poor guys privates and apply topical antibiotics every day. Yeay for me. But luckily the geding is sweet as can be and very easy going.
This past Saturday was a big day for my little mare. She turned 3 and went on her first trail ride! And 1st ride over 20 minutes long! This little mare is awsome! Im sending her away for training hopefuly on March 1st! Oh by the way she did great on her first trail ride, acted like she's been doing it her entire life!
My flock has finally started laying again, BUT the wheaten ameraucanas still arent laying. I have all but given up on them. They are all happy but frustrated about being locked up in their coop/run. The coyotes out here are already popping out pups, we are gonna have another pack of over 25 this year again. I REALLY wish my neighbor would quit feeding the pack! Stupid women buys 4-5 whole turkeys a week and leaves them laying out along her property line for the coyotes. Animal control says there is nothing they can do about it, the lady doesnt care that she is endangering my child and livestock, let alone her own pets!!!
THEN my other neighbors seem to think its cute to have a family of 6 raccoons living under there deck, and yes they feed the coons.
Stupid neighbors, but at the same time they are great people, just not always too bright.
OH!!! We finally figured out what happened to our artisian spring fed creek. It changed course by about 100 feet. It now runs under the road through the middle of my mothers pasture, and is currently flooding our neighbors property. We had to have the county out 3 weeks ago, as the roadway is starting to visibly crack/sink! My mothers pasture is now a swamp, I almost got stuck in 2 feet of mud just trying to wak across it. My nephew walked out there, and keep in mind he weighs around 130lb and he sunk in past his knees! There is now a knee high mud boot stuck about 2-3 feet in the muck. When a standard pickup truck drives over the road, you can watch little fountains of water shoot out of the ground by about 6-8" Thats how bad it is getting, even with the dry weather we have had over the past week. I am not sure what we can do about it. But the county has placed a work order to tear up the road and at least put in a culvert to stableize the roadway. What a mess!
Ok enough about my life.
How have you all been?
