Finally got an egg from the young wyandottes, who stopped laying when it snowed. I was beginning to worry.

DH fed them yesterday; I think they missed him!

OMG You are so funny girl !

I am trying to catch up here....

Hey, it was worth a shot. I could have shown you my messy house and frozen yard and chickens who are tired of the cold.

Good morning everyone!  :)

Let's start the morning with some fuzzy butts!! :D

LOVE FUZZY BUTTS!!!

Welcome to all the newbies!

I have fallen behind, and quite frankly dont have the energy to sit on my butt and read through some 100 pages or more.

Thought I would let you all know that I am still alive and healthy. Baby is healthy and kickin the crud out'ta me.  I dont have a whole lot to contribute to the thread so Ive been a random lurker. I am SO very ready for a day off, havn't had one in over 400 days, yes I do keep track. Im definately slowing down in the third trimester.

The past two weeks have been incredibly busy with horse injuries. First it was my cousins mare, she stepped on a nasty rusty 16-p nail, went right through the soft tissue of her heal. entered through the frog and almost penetrated out the top of her heal. Luckily it managed to miss all the ligaments and tendons, so just a nasty wound that needed flushing twice daily. That was almost a trip out to Pillchuck.

THEN last week one of the gedings at the barn I manage, somehow managed to step on his sheath and rip a 2" flap open on the inner sheath... Had the vet out, got both topical and feed through meds, and now I get to scrub the poor guys privates and apply topical antibiotics every day.  Yeay for me. But luckily the geding is sweet as can be and very easy going.

This past Saturday was a big day for my little mare. She turned 3 and went on her first trail ride! And 1st ride over 20 minutes long! This little mare is awsome! Im sending her away for training hopefuly on March 1st! Oh by the way she did great on her first trail ride, acted like she's been doing it her entire life!

My flock has finally started laying again, BUT the wheaten ameraucanas still arent laying. I have all but given up on them. They are all happy but frustrated about being locked up in their coop/run.  The coyotes out here are already popping out pups, we are gonna have another pack of over 25 this year again. I REALLY wish my neighbor would quit feeding the pack! Stupid women buys 4-5 whole turkeys a week and leaves them laying out along her property line for the coyotes. Animal control says there is nothing they can do about it, the lady doesnt care that she is endangering my child and livestock, let alone her own pets!!!

THEN my other neighbors seem to think its cute to have a family of 6 raccoons living under there deck, and yes they feed the coons.

Stupid neighbors, but at the same time they are great people, just not always too bright.

OH!!! We finally figured out what happened to our artisian spring fed creek. It changed course by about 100 feet. It now runs under the road through the middle of my mothers pasture, and is currently flooding our neighbors property. We had to have the county out 3 weeks ago, as the roadway is starting to visibly crack/sink! My mothers pasture is now a swamp, I almost got stuck in 2 feet of mud just trying to wak across it. My nephew walked out there, and keep in mind he weighs around 130lb and he sunk in past his knees! There is now a knee high mud boot stuck about 2-3 feet in the muck. When a standard pickup truck drives over the road, you can watch little fountains of water shoot out of the ground by about 6-8" Thats how bad it is getting, even with the dry weather we have had over the past week. I am not sure what we can do about it. But the county has placed a work order to tear up the road and at least put in a culvert to stableize the roadway.  What a mess!

Ok enough about my life.

How have you all been?

OMG - so exactly how does a gelding step on his sheath!?!? And why oh why are some people so incredibly dense about feeding coyotes and raccoons???

lots of you peeps have goats on here, I am looking for a weaned meat goat, who has them?? want a girl

Do you want to eat her or do you want to have kids with her. The reason I ask this is a lot of meat goat people get Nubian does and breed them to Boers. The reason I hear is because the nubians have better udders to feed the kids.

I have nubians that are 2 that are looking for a new home.. But they are not to be eaten..

its for a friend, and I think they want one to eat... I don't eat goat lol. do you know anyone that has Boers?

I have Boer crosses; we breed for meat (goat is incredibly tasty, tender and IMO much better than pork), but I don't have any for sale right now. I do have a friend who has several Boers, some of which are kidding right now. I could send you his phone # ?

yes please do, although I will admit I was a little sticker shocked at how much they want for a tiny little goat!! lol but send the number if you can. appreciate it

Oh I have NO clue how he managed to do this. But its quite nasty. It is healing nicely and quiker than I thought it would. In about 2 weeks, he will have the flap of skin surgically removed to prevent any further problems. Almost hate to say this, but the truth is. I'm making more money on this next paycheck, because the horse needs medical care. Still, poor stupid sweet horse. lol

OK, I'm going against the grain here, seems it's what I do on here so here goes.

I am not siding with anyone. I feel terribly for the children and the surviving family. I do not know who is guilty of the crime of the missing wife. What I do know is in this country people are innocent until PROVEN guilty. Josh Powell was not proven guilty YET. I do know the media is very powerful in filling our heads with a bunch of 'news'. The surviving family has been very influential in the way the media is pushing, pushing pushing this Josh Powell. Maybe he is guilty of killing his wife but the media needs to stop exploiting people. If they just let the investigators do their job without all the media attention maybe it wouldn't have pushed this Josh over the edge. Maybe something else happened to his wife and this was the only way he could see out of the misery the media created for him. Maybe he was driven to depression. Who knows. I do know that we can not judge anyone unless we have lived their life and in the end God is the only judge. The whole world judged this man. Yes, the evidence points in his direction and the investigation seemed to be making progress but maybe the lives of these children could have been spared if we all could just leave well enough alone and let the law do their job. I strongly believe this man was prematurely pushed with his back against a wall and saw no other way out but what he did. Ever hear of Post Partum Depression where women have killed their babies? It's a dark world to find yourself in. I think what we pushed this man into was very similar to that.

I believe the American people and the media needs to take some responsibility in this. Evil man, guilty man or not. JMHO

Finally the geese are in breeding pens.

They have been free ranging for about 5 months and they were not at all interested in cooperating.

It turned into quite the rodeo, the sebbies escaped after I had them penned, and really didn't want to go back in.

Hopefully things go as planned, we are trying to expand the pilgrim flock this year, I do have one goose that is spoken for, now that she is penned.

We will see how we do with the Buffs, Sebbies and Romans, most if not all of the buffs and romans will get sold off, I hope to improve on the sebbie flock for next year, working on some rounder bodies.

And I managed to not land on my hind end, all is good.

The birds are now all playing in the pools, I guess they will not be to heart broken for long.

CCG, I understand where you are coming from, and PARTIALLY agree. Depression can be a most horrible thing, and drive people to do crazy things. BUT, in the end, he not only took his own life (which belongs to him, so fair enough) but he took the lives of his children, and those lives didn't belong to him.

We must each and everyone of us take responsibility for our own acts, no matter how hard we are pushed. If I was a god believing person, I would say that God sends us these challenges and we need to face them, no matter how hard they are.

So, yes the media is often at fault for what they print, and prematurely at that. But, HE was STILL the party that took those children's lives. Each parent should be protecting his/her child from every evil this world has to offer. It is our responsibility and duty.

He knew what he was doing.
