If you really want to build an inc from scrap, make it BIG enough and use a "milk house heater" as your heat.
You can set the heat back n forth until you get it right, I have used it many times.
It is just like the ones you get from Walmart...with a thermostat on it, and set it til it is set !!!!!
Using a styrofoam ice chest or any thing styrofoam is asking for fire.

I actually have a small fridge that I am moving everything to, the ice-chest was just to see if I could manage to make it work before I went and destroyed a mini fridge

I know I am silly but I am just doing the homemade thing til I can afford to buy this http://cgi.ebay.com/Brinsea-Octagon...ltDomain_0&hash=item2305bfaa18#ht_2805wt_1165

DRS also had it on ebay for $99 just over a month ago. I was so sad that I didn't have the money for it then. I keep checking to see if they will relist it for that much but so far no go. Good luck!

ETA: I just checked and they do have it on sale right now! http://www.brinsea.com/prod-Octagon_20_ECO_egg_incubator-224.aspx

wishin you luck---you can get a hygrometer from the pet store--especially if they specialize in reptiles--because some reptiles are even more sensitive to humidity than our eggs (can you BELIEVE that?

) But you can get them there pretty cheap... that's where I picked mine up at... it seems to be working really well. I just asked the lady --which kind are you using in your terrariums?? and it was the middle of the road price-wise.

just an idea!!

I'll have to see about stopping at petsmart next time I'm in Olympia then. That's about an hour from me... I'm way out in the boonies so it's to late for that. A plus, though, I just heard a peep and some knocking. They're due tomorrow. I'm keeping my fingers crossed and my boys have been told that under no uncertain terms, they're not to open the bator! I just have to hope I don't have any shrink-wrapping tomorrow. It must not be too humid because there was a peep. They can breathe.

Tell him to stop eating wheat/gluten !!!!!!!!!!!!!
So far who is the doctor ?
A gastroenterologist, specialist in auto-immune disorders, or what ?
The intestinal biopsies I had done were good, too, cuz I stopped eating wheat.
In order to have the celiac test/biopsy done, you must eat gobs of wheat, and then biopsy blisters on the body/usually on elbows and knees, although I have had them crop up on my lips (coldsores) and they can crop up on the other mucous membrans tissue, such as gums in your mouth, or on the genitals, which is a freak out that you have herpes !!!
It is called "Dermitis Herpiformis" which means "it looks like herpes" in medical terms.
There has to be a reason why he has suffered all these years and is not diagnosed...what kind of ALLERGIES does he have, remember celiac disease , as well as Crohne's, is all about a trigger happy """hyper-active""""" immunal system.
The immunal system can ATTACK and destroy your body parts,, your thyroid for example...so having it ticked off is not a good thing !!!
In Celiac disease as well as Crohnes and ulcerative colitis, the immunal system attacks the "threats" in the intestines, and destroys them...scalding the intestinal linning as if burnt with fire....think Cocci, everytime the immunal system 'sees' this thing..a fragment of wheat for example...or in Crohne's the immunal system reacts to the very BENEFICIAL bacteria we all have in our got and must have to survive...in celiac the immunal system attacks gluten, the long protein strands in wheat....
This has to be continued another day, got work to do !
Your son is how old ???
Another clue::
Does he have dark rings under his eyes ?
And has he ever had:
Itchy blisters on elbows, knees, sides of hands, a 'hat band ring' of blisters around the head...maybe even some on the genatalia like you think are herpes ?
That, is celiac disease !!!

We started by taking off carpet from 5 2x4 and plywood (slabs) we got for $4.00 each
We placed them with 6' presure treated wood legs on the 4 corners for about 7.00 each
my son helping haul back the side with one of the legs ready to go
Drilling 2 holes on the upper part, on each side, covered by wire for ventillation.
The door doubles as their walkway up into their home. we attached slats to the doorway short enough to get the door closed The 3 nesting boxes we got from a friend (free) fit great inside and we made an opening to access the boxes.
we need a roof next. that comes soon (before the rain I hope)

We just have a sheet of Particle board on top for now. It rains a lot here in WA
the waterer and feeder are atached with bike hooks below the nesting boxes.
total cost $48. for the wood $16 for the hinges and locks. Lots and lots of Elbow greese.

We plan on putting it atached to the outside area of the run about 1 foot lower in the ground.
