Howdy folks!!! Been away all weekend at a scrapbooking retreat up in Gold Bar. Was very productive. Did a whole year's worth, but still back in summer of 2009!

Finally starting to feel a little bit caught up around here in the home front! And it is HATCH DAY! I woke up to one BLRW and one mystery bantam cochin. I got hatching eggs last summer from someone who had a lavender roo over blue girls. I saved a trio of black splits in the hopes of hatching out some lavenders. I woke up to a completely yellow chick! Don't think there's no lavender in her! Guess we'll have to wait and see what it grows up to be! Had another BLRW hatch out a little bit ago, have another lavender cochin (hopefully!!!) pipped as well as a Marans and another BLRW. Sad to say, most of my B. Salmon Fav's from Cloverleaf got tossed due to blood rings.

I left one egg in but still don't think it's viable....looked like it quit right before I locked down. So I need to get more!!!!

Hoping all this talk of snow goes away so I can get down south to pick up som black split girls from CGG tomorrow.

Hope everyone has battened down the hatches! The wind here has been bad too all day off and on. And it's hailing now.

Okay I have sent out group PM's. When replying you may want to send a PM as a new one, because a reply will go to every one of the recipients of the original PM. For any one I have forgotten to add to the PM's please forgive me. As for the rest Go to PayPal.com/send money/personal/gift. This keeps from any party paying fees.

Oh, also: now both of the elder EEs are laying. In the bathroom. ARGH.

I'm going to try to rig a way to at least give them a nest box without taking any more leg-room away. I'm working on their outside abode when the rain holds off, and trying to rig stuff in here whan it doesn't, but I'm also dealing with several ongoing non-chicken related (and not even cow related) problems, including replacing the draft-blocking curtain at the mouth of the hall which is the difference between a warm house and a chilly, drafty one. The dogs and cats have, between them, destroyed the existing curtain, and the cats got into my random linens in the laundry room and peed on the reserve curtain.

Tiny, tiny, inconsequential bothers, much like being beseiged by noseeums.

Ginger is trying to go broody. if she weren't on the bottom of the pecking order, I'd give all the Spitz and Brabanter eggs I have on hand. I'm still hoping Carmen will go broody for me after the Monroe show. My eggs are spoken for until then.

Way cool WA-mom! I have just had a second chick hatch. I have a total of 42 eggs in the incubator, but I have a staggered hatch going on. So I am expecting maybe 10 or 12 chicks out of this batch.

ok so is there anything wrong with this statement???

Orpingtons are a large breed of chicken with characteristic round body shapes and fluffy feathers.

those 50 eggs with the bad shipping..... I wanted the Sussex to hatch... so of course I got 6 orpingtons... :he
50 eggs.. 16 broken on arrival, only 10 made in to lockdown, 6 orps hatched, 1 ee and 1 "sussex" which erm has feathered shanks  and 26 clear eggs...

Dang you guys! Now I want a mini cow! lucky for me the highlanders are small...
My dad's family are dairy farmers and they always had Jersey's
Love the mini Jersey's!
one day I will have a farm... one day I will have a farm.... ONE DAY!

Really? The Highland cattle are small? My neighbors must have some VERY large stock then, cause when Lambert got out and was in my driveway he was HUGE! lol Very gentile, but very HUGE! lol Lambert is my neighbors Highland bull. Even the 2 year old they have is big, so is the cow.

I love me some Whooly, Scottish Highland cattle!

Yes, those and many other situations. Just trying to make light of things. I guess it's my sick sense of humor. Helps to try to laugh once in a while. Still think we need to start a club. I don't mind being the only member.
