If the cat is truly feral, and not someone's free-roaming pet, it really it detrimental to just release it back into the wild. Feral cats reproduce, spread disease, and destroy wildlife. As a veterinarian, I'll tell you that it is also my opinion that they don't have much of a life. They are usually ill and flea-ridden. I would trap the cat and take it to the Humane Society to be euthanized. Just make sure you're not doing in someone's pet. I know not everyone agrees with me on this. Many of my clients are kind people who trap, spay or neuter and release feral cats. This is just my opinion.

Nyrial,
Just be careful believing that kids can't reach it. I know yours are little. My parents believed that my brother and I were well trained and couldn't get to the handgun. And we had lots of fun afternoons playing with that loaded gun, they never found out.

NWChicks,
Thanks for posting that info. A few of us at work have been talking about taking a handgun class. The one in Arlington sounds good and reasonably priced.

Russ

BTW- Congrats on the hatches and condolences on the losses.

I help with the local feral colonies here where I live (actually, I have not got to help much this year - but have in previous years), but I degress. Our experience with ferals is that once you have trapped them - there is no retrapping. I don't know if you will have luck or not, but sure as heck doesn't hurt to try. Good luck. Get the bugger out of there. And I agree above.

dont count your chickens before thy hatch!!!!!! that goes both ways sweety!!!! you don't know for a fact anything is going to be wrong so please stop stressing!!!

Thank you NWchicks for the info. I'm going to look into that class while the girls are at Grandmas this next month.

And that's right Imp, they are little, that's what concerns me. I'd feel safer having it locked up for sure. They're too little to understand gun safety (oldest just turned 5)

Congrat's on your hatching babies!!!

Sparklerose--can you get a livetrap somewhere? I know some humane societies will loan one out with a deposit? Feed stores sell them..? hope you get the kitty gone. I like cats, but not ones that eat chicklets!

There are locked gun boxes out there for a reasonable price with combination locks that allow you access to your loaded gun within seconds.

If you are going to be trained to use a gun then have a loaded one available to you no matter if you have kids or not.
A gun in a locked box with combination lock is safe.

If you can afford it have at least three guns preferably more in locked boxes placed through out your house so no matter which part of the house an intruder comes in you have a chance to grab one.

If you don't have that chance and someone is home that is trained to handle a gun yell for them to get "Lori".
They will know EXACTLY what is going on when you say get "Lori" you are in trouble.
Name all your guns so intruders have no idea what you just communicated to someone in another part of your home where you have another locked safe.

If you have a gun no matter what go get training on how to use it. A person with a gun who has no training is like handing the car keys to your ten year old. A disaster will happen.

A person who is trained to use a gun can save your life preventing a disaster.

Makes sense, but it still made me giggle, since I name almost everything (cars, chickens, computers..)
