That is totally not true. I am not even sure YOU had all those things going on, the symptoms were not there.
And no one else had it buit the wee isolated friends around you, all stemming from one place.
No one else had any of those diseases and I am confident that you didnt have them either.
Having lice and mites is something that is easy to deal with, and also something not to brag about, as it is always caused by poor cleaning conditions, so it all shines back on your chicken-keeping.
Birds kept well, NEVER have any of those problems.
Advertising that you have is is duhhhhhhhhhhhhh...stating WE have is not true.

Chickielady- I am not trying to be rude, but if you knew me at all you would already know that about me! But you don't know me, nor do you know my situation AT ALL nor have you EVER seen how I keep chickens! To answer about my "wee isolated friends around me" They happen to be my best friends! and all three of us got chickens from the same place, one of them so far HAS died of Cocci and the other of lice!! I would in NO WAY AT ALL EVER brag about that in any way, it was the person we got them from (which all three of us did) and it is VERY sad to see your best friends go through loosing a loved chicken!! The only thing you know about "my situation" is that I have an injured Roo (which was injured when he came to me also with lice/mites) If you in anyway at all think that the lice and mites situation reflects on me then I challenge you to come here and see how I actually do keep and raise my chickens!! My chickens live better than we do, but you would know that if you really knew me!!

I am very aware of what happened from the beginning. And in no way do I believe it was Cocci, and the fact that 1 person had lice or mites has nothing to do with the rest of the state of Washington,
No one I know here has that nor Mareks, thanks God.
Please do not scare new people that 'we' are infested with these problems.
You are your circle of freinds had an issue, not the state.
I do believe you care properly for your birds, you got the parasites from someone else, none of this is about you personally, it is just a statement that here in Washington we do not have a lice, mite or cocci infestation, rampis or otherwise.
It was just that one person, and it is a shame that you, and Jess got the bad deal...I feel bad for you as you already well know.
But like you said, you got them from someone ekse.
If you go back and read your post, it sounds very much like 'we' all have 'rampid lice, mites and cocci' that statement never told anyone where you got it, or that it was an isolated incident, all it sounded like was that you all had it...it was your wording that was wrong, and very scarey to a newcomer.

I get that! And YES one of the THREE of us did have a chicken die of cocci!! You DON'T know our whole situation!!! I in no way meant to scare a newcomer and if I did I AM SORRY!! That as truly not my intentions at all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi I live in Renton. My daughter's dad has chickens at his house up in Canada and so she would like to be able to incubate, hatch and raise her own chicks. She enjoyed taking care of "her chickens" up there. We are looking forward to this experience. We would like to either have Orpingtons or Wyandottes eggs asap.

Thankyou

Good luck !
I tried for weeks to catch a brindle male cat with two white back feet...he ticked all over our porch, brooms, boots on the porch, everywhere outside, in and out of the boat,, etc.....and so we set up the hav-a-heart trap and we caught 10 cats , one a night for over a week, and finally caught the one big male we were seeing sneaking around.
Moral of this story is that if there is one cat you are seeing...there is 9 you are not seeing.
Feral cats are a big problem and will gladly sit and watch your flock and snatch a gosling, duckling or chik in a New York second.
One minute your babies are there, the next minute the babies are gone !
I had one take out 3 mallard duckings one day right in front of the entire neighborhood of chicldren !
I can still hear the kids screaming...the cat just killed them and ran away.

OK!!!! Calm down !
The other friend told me she did not have any bloody diareah and after a thought it was not cocci.
In any event, it was isolated, and good whatever it was did not travel, and if I have been misinformed that, that is that.
You are such a sweetheart !

OK, my puppy is crying, missing his siblings, and I am tired, so will catch up tomorrow, still want to know what kind of worms those were ...big long like roundworms, ?
Are you using DE on the feed ?
I want to know if you are using DE and got the worms anyway ?
I use DE dusted on the feed and have not seen any worms..so I am worried.
I clean the poo out of the poop trays almost daily, and have not seen worms...
ICKY !

Tomorrow...this baby is wearing me out even though he drops like a rock and sleeps every half hour....
Zgoatlady...at 8 weeks, did your dog look this big (11 #) ?
I know he is not purebred, but wondering on how big he will get, his feet are small, and my vet says the size of the feet have nothing to do with how big the dog will get...(or was that just about men ???

)
He is funny looking, what with the pricked fluffy ears and one eye apears smaller than the other it just makes me laugh.
Chickaholic look at this funny face puppy dog !
I wish you could pick him up he is so soft and will clean your whole face !

I took my kids out in the 'yard' in Okanogan and taught them how to shoot, and most importantly, I showed them what happens to what you shoot...they have grown up with both a healthy respect for guns, but also a self respect to protect themselves, rather than be victimized.
Teach your kids, do not ever illimenate the fact they THEY WILL find out one way or another about everything!
Drugs! Pot! Sex!Guns, all of it !Curiosity didn't just kill the cat.
Be their friend and teach them well !
And parents that walk around thinking their kids "would never do drugs" are kidding themselves.
Be your kids' friends...ask and tell with them.

Chickielady. I agree with you we should teach our kids. We should teach them about all of the different factors involved.

Yet..............

Not everyone will have kids old enough to be taught.
Not every kid no matter their age will have the maturity level great enough to handle the responsibility of a gun.

Those gun safes allow you or any trained kids you have access to a loaded gun in seconds.

Fact is you can believe your WHOLE family is well trained to handle guns and all it takes is one of your kids friends to come over and discover where you keep them and you now have opened up a can of worms.
Unfortunately time and time again you read in the news kids obtaining guns from other kids parents.

I know guns is a hot topic but I wanted to present a way for those on the forum not only to protect their livestock, but also protect their family through the use of gun safes.

I have one gun that is not secured in my house ...that is my personal carry weapon and as such is in my possession or under control at all times.....well now that my kids are 20 and 18 its not as much an issue as when they were kids. They now understand not only the hows, but the whys (and why nots), and the long term consequences....they have also at this point been allowed to experience the joys (under supervision ofcourse) because a gun in the hands of an untrained person is almost as dangerous as a gun in the hands of a criminal....besides IF you choose to use lethal force on anything you dont want to miss as bullets travel and your mom, dad, sister, brother, friend, etc may be the one down range
