Guess we're a bit in sync. I've been working on a 'new and improved' duck house here as well, and got all but one of the roof rafters up yesterday and could hardly wait to get at it again today ... - yeah right ...

So just curious about your ducks - were those 'attempts at quacks' you heard a couple of weeks ago actually quacks? Mine still are only peeping which could mean I have two boys here. I'm actually fine, either way, but it would have been fun to have one of each.

When I spoke to the breeder I got my eggs from she said she wasnt getting good hatchs also.
But with my mix of Blue Ameraucana and BCM I get great hatchs like can you say all of the eggs hatch... So I dont think its the breed but maybe rooster or something like that.
With my BCM eggs I have a pretty good rate also and so do the people who buy from me if they do it right.
Here is to good hatch's for everyone

I am really bummed out. I just got the magnetic bumper stickers from BYC.

I was thrilled to get them.

Then I went to put them on my car, and I just discovered that the back door on my Volvo is not metal but either made of Fiberglass or Non Ferrous metal.

So the magnets will not stick to the back of the car.

I can't make up my mind whether or not I want to cry or throw a temper tantrum.

I think I am leaning towards a good cry.

It's raining, cold and I think the cat got one of my JRFinches last night after I went to bed. I think today should have been cancelled.

Nope I completely understand. I know that there are worse things that can and have happened. And certainly magnetic bumper stickers should not be very high on a list of things that bum a person out. Somehow I can talk about the bumper stickers, and not so much about the loss of the little bird that the cat got. I really need to get a cage with narrower bars. I wanted them to have a bigger space, and got a cage with 5/8th inches bar spacing because one of the bird cage sites said that it would work. Well they were wrong. I need a large cage with 1/2" spacing. It still breaks my heart that I didn't keep the little bird safe.

I keep thinking that if the weather was warmer that I would feel better. I don't understand why the damp and cold are getting to me more and more these days. I am a King County native so it's not like I don't know what it's like here year around, I think it's because I am getting older and everything on my body hurts more when it's cold and damp.

This is a great group of people to know, here on this thread. I think that we all do a great job of giving hugs, and "poor little lambies" when needed, and also we are able rejoice and we can high five each other when great things happen. I am sure that soon we will have some great days, and very happy moments. It's so good to have people to share these things with. I am not sure if it is a case of with good things come the bad, or it's with the bad things come the good. But for me I like to think that for me my glass is a little more than half full of good things. I find it good to be encouraged to think positive thoughts. I also think that it is always better to assume the best intentions in others comments, until it's been proven otherwise.

Yes, I was just in the coop and thinking about which of my chicks will stay and which will go. A lady from BYC is coming this weekend for 4 girls and then I'll know which girls will be mine for sure. I want to move a few up into the other coop because there's a bit of room in there and getting cramped in the chick coop! My parents are coming up from AZ in a couple weeks for the summer and I'm thinking I might get my dad to help me build a small coop for temporary birds. I have 24 in my coop that I'm raising for someone until August and am thinking of separating them asap so that there's not as much stress when they go later. We'll just have to see...

Anyway, he's still there. I haven't promised him to anyone else or anything so whenever you can get him, just let me know

Chickielady. I agree with you we should teach our kids. We should teach them about all of the different factors involved.

Yet..............

Not everyone will have kids old enough to be taught.
Not every kid no matter their age will have the maturity level great enough to handle the responsibility of a gun.

Those gun safes allow you or any trained kids you have access to a loaded gun in seconds.

Fact is you can believe your WHOLE family is well trained to handle guns and all it takes is one of your kids friends to come over and discover where you keep them and you now have opened up a can of worms.
Unfortunately time and time again you read in the news kids obtaining guns from other kids parents.

I know guns is a hot topic but I wanted to present a way for those on the forum not only to protect their livestock, but also protect their family through the use of gun safes.

kids that are of the correct age should be taught, but not babies.
The guns we have with kids around are always locked, and the shells and/or components of the guns locked in various places.
Leaving a loaded firearm around of any type is insane, and has to be of the upmost in irresponsibility...jsu imagine what else those kinds of people leave lying about for kids to find.
Another thing that bothers me and always has, is the parents who buy their kids toy guns, plastic that some have pop caps in them, some look real, and the kids run around and play 'shooting each other' and that is the extent of their experience, they have never been schooled about guns or been around real guns, if they had ever witnessed the huge boom, these kids would have been scared away from guns and had a healthy respect for guns as we did when we were kids.
No gun, plastic or otherwise should be used as a toy, and never pointed at another living thing, this is so sad that kids get these guns and point them at their friends and 'play', lazy or irresponsible parents, always the reason why these horrible things happen. So sad.
