What kind of worms did you see in their poo ?
Curious as to what kind of worms you had ?

I was cleaning out the poop tray behind the roost, and I saw what looked like the kind of worms that puppies have. They were long and real thin and round. I don't remember the exact timeline on the events, but it was all really close together. I had one of my BCM die of what looked like brain cancer, and then I found the other BCM dead in coop a couple of days later. She had been fine I saw her with the flock eating scratch. She looked healthy and happy and then an hour or so later she was dead in the coop. I am wondering if it was worms. I got wormer the next day and wormed them all. We can start eating the eggs again on Saturday. I am going to worm the girls again with Iverectin on Saturday. I need to check and see how long I have to wait to be able to eat the eggs. I do know that egg production went up from about 6 a day to almost 12 eggs every day. So from here on out I am going to worm them on a schedule.

I use DE a lot in the coop and run. It helps but according to the thread on worming it is not enough by its self. The link I posted had a lot of really good information.

Worms are present in the dirt most of the times, so it is hard to have your birds not get them. I also free range on a small scale by letting the girls out to hunt bugs in the back yard. I also have 7 dogs that use the yard for doggy doing things, so I think that it is very possible that the girls got the same kind of worms that the puppies have had.

sounds like round worms, and you dust their food with DE, that is what I was worried about cuz I figured the DE would take care of all worms.

So, now I march my old butt down to the feed store and get wazine myself !
Thanks for posting this !

THats what happened to me. I found my polish hen really sick just kind of laying around. I picked her up and found a worm hanging out of her. THat was yesterday. I started them last night on the wormer you recommended. I found the polish dead today

I am hoping I got to the rest in time. On a side note for some reason I also found my blue laced red dead this morning too. Not sure what happened to her. THen to make matters worse my momma hen decided she doesn't like one of the babies anymore so she was treating her kind of bad. I moved the chick in with the other chicks that are about 8-16 weeks old and they seem to have accepted her ok. She went over and layed next to one and also got some water and food so I hope she makes it, but I am considering bringing her inside the house and taking one of the other chicks to keep her company.

Update: The 26 day chick that hatched did not make it. Not sure why but she seemed to really have a slow start to life.

Hope everyone has a good day

Oh so sad !
I had the same kind of thing happen a month ago with a faulty thermometer/hygrometer and a slow hatch !!!
darn it !
I am starting to think that heavy worm infestations can do alot more internal injuries than we know of, such as they bore right into the liver, lungs and go through the inntestinal walls...I am going to get some wazine ASAP...do you think the wazine itself may have been too strong for your birds ?
In other words like dogs with heavy infestations of heart worms, if you worm the dog 100% it kills off all the worms at once and can cause mortality in that all the dead worms can clog up the heart valves and arteries, and those dead inside vital organs must be resorped by the immunal system, killing them all at once is too much...with dogs, they get a heart worm test, and are given a little wormer at a time, so to kill off a little worms everyday so the dog can heal and resorp the dead parasites.
Does that sound like what may be happening as you worm the birds, the next day they die ???

Chickie ...agreed ..I grew up doing some things sooo stupid its amazing I am alive including playing with "toy" and "other" guns...though we were educated about guns at an early age we were allowed to treat "toy" guns as such which led to things like BBGun wars (almost lost an eye that way) and other "sports" some of which werent good on the local flora or fauna either

....my children ended up as a result being educated early but also discouraged from "playing" with guns of any type and NEVER pointing ANYTHING even RESEMBLING a gun at ANYONE....with these rules they not only arrived to adult alive but with a respect for firearms and life in general, now the oldest is applying to be a police officer (yes I am proud

He learned to dig under his gate in 10 minutes.
He is very smart.
Scarey smart.

Oh, and he is a nipple biter, DH sits on the couch with him (not a good habit to start) and has to keep his hand over his man nippie (

My marans hatched extremely well, 11 out of 13, all around 2 days starting on day 21 exactly.
They did seem to have hard shells, did have to pull one out in a wet paper towel and help pick a tiny bit of shell out from where it's beak poked through, but after that he did well on his own.
These are Blue black and blue splash marans from madelynbelle.
Feathered legs, they are beautiful chicks !

so you have to maybe tape them inside the rear windows(or side windows that do not open) so they can be seen from outside ? DH says that alot of the cars now are made with a plastic, like rubbermaid type product, but he says he has not worked on any volvos in a long time, no new ones.

Justbugged, did you get the Verm X herbal stuff or did you do Wazine ?
I am seriously thinking Wazine kills off all the papasites at once (there can be more than 1 kind of worm in the bird) and if they all die at once can kill the birds by clogging up arteries and the heart as heart worms do...so maybe I will do a lower dosage or look for this Verm X herbal pellets at any feed stores, anyone seen this product ?

Anyone seen this in any local stores here ?
Shipping is so slow and costly.
