Oh wait I have one more story. I moved back here in 94 from AZ, and that's when I got my first job as a vet assist before I went to college and got my license. My boss at the time was part of the Sunnyside city counsel and was always in the know! LOL Here in Sunnyside we have TONS of dairies. We also had at that time, a feed lot, Monsons ranch. Well to make a long story short these farms and ranches have been in this valley a LONG time, and yes it did give Sunnyside the nickname Smellyside. Apparently, there were some folks that did like it, and took issue with it and started making their own "stink" so to speak and got the county and the city to make the farmers get rid of or reduce their smell. But, guess who the majority of people were from that were complaining?? People from CA!!! Now, I can tell you this, Monson eventually moved out, of where they had been for over 30 years cause the city pressured them Van deGraffs was another who had to move. These ranches were here WAY before the city was a city, but because the city started moving closer to them, it was the ranches and dairies fault! REALLY?? And I still maintain that if you move here and you don't like it leave!!! I have about 7 dairies within a 3 mile radius of me. Most days it is not pleasant to smell especially in the winter with no breeze. Am I happy about it? NO! but, I like my piece of land and to me it's the smell of money! This Valley has depended on these Dairies for a long time and my husband wouldn't have the job he has if it weren't for that. There is a ton of economy and money generated by them and the support services. But, it just irritates me that one comes to a place and instead of taking it for what it is, or moving if they don't like it, they run others off, or cause more laws or regulations!!! Ok, anyway, I'm done now!! LOL!! By the way, as you can tell, the smell hasn't changed so, so much for all the misery and grief their complaining and belly aching caused!

opps meant to say "didn't like it" lol

The problem with King County is that Seattle is in it. We lived in Duvall (part of King County) for 8 yrs, before buying land in unincorporated Snohomish County and building our house here.

City laws/ordinances, etc, made for Seattle, don't work for the rest of the county, especially rural areas. At one time, there was a strong push to make a new county, that had most of King County's outlying rural area's in it. Wish that had gone thru.....anyway, that's all I'll say about that. Much happier up here in Snohomish County!

Hello everyone! =) I hope you've all been enjoying the nice weather - our chicks certainly are!

Here they are at just over four weeks. They are spending the days in their outdoor coop (with a lamp) and nights still in the garage.

Most of these are spitz-crossed with something or other except the one ducking it's head.

My favorite - what do you think those two are thinking?

I went from Graham WA (wet, 10 acres where we had chickens, geese and ducks) to Phoenix, AZ in september. It was miserable for me. I enjoyed the country life so much and moved to the big city. Plus I was 5 months pregnant with my now 16 year old. Made it hard to adjust to the heat. I was never so glad when I moved back to WA after 1 1/2 years in phoenix. I love the country and up until this year haven't been able to move to it and get birds. (chickens, ducks, and turkeys) the turkeys are stepdaughter's fault, she found them so we had to get them. Now i am moving into the city of pasco to our own house instead of renting. The neighbors all have birds. The guy next door doesn't but he loves listening to them. And he already has dibs on some eggs. Now for me to check regulations. The only thing I can find is for R zoned areas but this house is in light industrial zone. I am definately going to have to thin the flock as hubby says. But it will be worth it. We are getting a house that was built in 1920 and is on 3 city lots with only 1 next door neighbor. I love old houses. Right now I am evaluating my birds to decide which ones to take and which stays. LandLADY here wants to keep what I can't have.

On another note: definately have to love the smell of sunnyside LOL. I go there every other week to take kiddos to their dad's.
