The Glacier Heritage Preserve is one of the pieces of land Weyerhaeuser donated to preservation status (another is Woodard Cove, which was their primary South Puget Sound log shipment facility for most of the 20th century) and is an amazing place- so much of the Camas land has been landscaped out of existance (among other things; the forty I live on was a pig farm before my family got to it, around the time of the Civil War, and all the camas was eaten).
As Sweet Silver says, this is a restoration project, and doesn't have the full range of prairie flora yet. Mima Mounds is also included in the Prairie Days festivities, and has Fritillaria and other species which haven't been reintroduced at the Weyerhaeuser site.
I'll be there, unless I'm not- wearing a white hat and pale clothing and possibly being shaded by an umbrella-carrying assistant I gave birth to.
(I can be demanding, tomorrow is my birthday!).
Happy Birthday; and thanks for sharing the beautiful photo!

Wish I could be there - DD has a harp recital in Seattle. I hate hauling the harp around downtown ... and the music stand, and the bench.....
Too bad Sherman Clay does not sell harps, then maybe they would have loaners in their recital rooms.

Wish I lived closer...............

We have hundreds of the best Northwest varieties still in stock. These include cherries, apples, plums, pears and peach trees, blueberries, raspberries, strawberries and many unusuals not found elsewhere.

All the fruit trees are completely dormant in cold storage and in perfect condition to dig in and grow for you.

At the end of May, the season is over, and we want all these plants to find a good home! This is the best time to get your orchard planted at an affordable price.

Here's how the sale works:

For example, if you buy $100, choose $50 from the following extensive list of free plants. If you buy $30, choose $15 worth of free plants. The more you buy, the more free plants you get.

You can give us a call at 1-800-391-8892 or go directly to www.raintreenursery.com to place your order.

Check out more details at http://www.raintreenursery.com/waorblowoutsale.html.
Thanks for the post, I am going to place an order. I have bought from there before and all my plants grew well. Only last time I drove down and picked them up. With gas prices being what they are, that won't be happening any time soon.

On the other hand, mortgage rates have dropped! I am going to see about refinancing - maybe we will have some $ to help out with projects I hope to get done around here.

Got DD off to Florence this morning.
Here's my last pic of Lily before the shuttle arrived to take her across the world from me -

Beautiful DD ya got there Dana. IMO She looks so much like her Mom.

A bit of advice. If your dog happens to be a good hunter and bring in a mole. DO NOT leave the dog and said mole in the front yard while ya go in for dinner. And if by chance ya do and the mole goes to ground. No matter how fast you turn it or how hard you push A sewer snake will not screw into the mole. It will just cause the mole to kick dirt up in yer face. Plan B worked very well. 150 grains of lead injected from a 38 !!! Game over mister mole I WIN ! ! !

Today we started the remodel of the apartment in the stables. Talk about a little stress reliever. That's when ya get to freely lay that 32oz hammer through walls just to see whats behind the dry wall. However there was a bit of an incident. See I warned the guy I am working with that when he tore down the ceiling there would be bats and I would be on the floor and headed down the stairs. Sure enough here comes the bats. I was on the floor on my belly. Couldn't get to the stairs. And Robert is running around using a window screen trying to heard this bat out a window with out hurting it!

HI :frow

Sorry that I have been MIA. It's been crazy here. Actualy I don't even think crazy describes it. Hence why I'm still awake at 12:15am! I really could use more than 24 million hours in a day.

I hope that everyone is doing good! :love

I hope everyone has a fun Saturday.

We are up at O'dark thirty to head to a Horse show in the morning. This afternoon, I have convinced a group of friends to help my move another friends chicken coop to my house. I hope to use it to separate out some breeding chickens from my hodge podge layer flock.

The weather should be great!

Someone asked about books. I am currently reading "The Small-Scale Poultry Flock", by Harvey Ussery. http://www.amazon.com/The-Small-Sca...2908/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1336826758&sr=8-1

Not only highly informative, but fun to read, the author describes an all-natural approach to raising chickens and other fowl for home and market growers. Superb book.

Someone else posted a pic of their coop and asked if they had enough ventilation. You don't. You will have moisture build up, especially in the winter, and I would expect the summer too, due to the higher humidity on the west side of the state.

I'm still looking to add layers to my flock. I'm going to be in Omak next weekend, so if any of you up there have surplus hens, please let me know.

Happy Mother's day to the Moms, and Happy Birthday to Julia :)
