CR - I end up here mighty often. I can learn about chickens on any thread. I left one because all they did was try to outbrag each other CONSTANTLY, to the point it was just plain nauseating. The Washingtonians are comfort food to me just like ice cream and chocolate candy. When the ice cream and candy are gone, I still have you guys, and thankgoodness you aren't fattening. I'm not from these parts but, way across to Chicago area. Chicken Lady granted me special dispensation to participate here and I get bonus points because my son lives in Redmond. This is sanctuary - plain and simple. the very best place to park your butt and lurk or contribute. Love you guys - big time!!!.

Ahhh! Chicago!! Not far from my ancestors in MI!! Or just across the lake eh?? LOL! DD you are a joy here! You have made me laugh and I appreciate your contributions!! Now anyway you can get me some Polish sausage or a pizza and send it?? LOL!
I visited there as a kid, my mom and dad had friends there!

Just put them outside in a nice clean pen with nice clean grass for them to play in/on. They are loving it.

Oh that's awesome!! Ya know the two I hatched out? They come running up to me in the pasture! And Mr peeps keeps giving me the eye ball! But, I just keep talking to him and trying to touch him!! Then he makes haste and leaves!! LOL!! They may go out to the big pasture soon! They like being out on the grass and believe it or not, goats aren't lawn mowers!! They will trim your trees before the grass! I am so glad you got them!!!

Oh, I keep forgetting to say. Beginning of April the hired hand took me to Fred Meyer's, and on the way in I ran into my cousin Jamie's (brother to my cousin-up-the-hill, Mike) father-in-law in the vegetable seed aisle. We had a long talk about gardening and chickens and so on, and then he went back to the seed racks and I went off to get my list of things I'd forgotten to put on my list the weekend before. On the way out the door, I ran into him again, talking to my sister near the garden entrance check-in.

A few days later he watched the Mariner's win one of their best games of the season, and when his wife came out to tell him to go to bed, he was dead in his recliner. It's not the worst way to end. He was 83 or so, not sick, and happy with his life until the end.

Michael ended up with four of his hens, Australorps that make Malvina look like a banty. Seriously. I walked around a downed apple tree moving Baaachus' tether last week and there they were, better than knee-high. It was like running into a flock of turkeys!

Michael's flock is getting blacker and blacker. He hatched a bunch of blue and green eggs from his existing EEs and ended up with 48 black chicks fathered by the blue Ameraucana I traded CL for last summer. The chicken calculator told me it would happen that way (the hens are wheaten and buff) but he was surprised. He wants to have blue eggs to sell, so I hope he's got sufficient pullets.

Does anyone have hatching eggs for purchase or trade (see my link in my siggy for trade!) in the Seattle or on the Eastside? I would love to get just four to six for my broody. She's already been cooking the ceramic eggs for four days!

Icelandic is what I've been hoping for all year - but the website that has had them available all year when I've been checking is now sold out!  Figures!

And my second choice fell through - her girl is broody too!

Now I just want to relieve the poor girl and give her some real eggs  Let me know! Thanks!

Dawn, I have proven Hamburg eggs and untested BLRWs, but won't be coming up your way for a long while (I could meet you on the eastside Friday the 25th, but that's ridiculous).

I have 1 barred rock and 2 Easter Eggers with my silkies and the silkies can hold their own. In fact this last time Cinders (splash Silkie) hatched out her chicks she was very protective and would chase out the 2 Easter Eggers and the other splash silkie. She liked the barred rock and would let her stay.

OMG!! Wow! You just never know?? Glad you got to see him and that he was comfortable and happy! May he rest in peace!

This weekend I am going to my churches womens retreat. I can't wait.

I have to talk to my husband about turning the eggs that I am getting tomorrow from the may swap.



I told my husband that I need to start selling my little roos. He told me to wait to make sure they are roos before selling them.
And he doesn't even like chickens.

Well I just want everyone to know my Chicken math SUCKS!! I have two bators going and when I counted and wrote on my calendar, today one was supposed to go into lock down and tomorrow the other! WELL..... I went to lockdown the first one and I heard peeping?? I was thinking "crap, I've never heard peeping this early before?" they would still have three more days right??

wrong!! LOL
I went back and checked the calender, TODAY is the 21st day!! So that means the other will pip tomorrow!!! How could I be so far off???

Maybe cause I have too many babies coming around the same time?? goaties should be here any day too!!

And I believe it was Ralph Kramden that always said "And awaaayyyy we go" !!!!! LOL!
