Futures milk came in and she is already milking about 3 lbs!! Don't know if that's awesome, but, I think it is!! Fidelity was kind of a butt, but, we have her turned around and haven't weighted her milk yet. We will be disbudding and banding this week.
Take care of yourself Cheri!!

too all!

Oh my heavens we've had quite an interesting night and morning. My youngest son (2) has Hand Foot and Mouth disease! ICK!! Poor boy is miserable and the only thing keeping him happy is playing games on my phone. Glad for the phone at least! I hope my other 2 don't get this, it's miserable!
HFM is SO contagious and miserable, I'm sorry! My oldest had blisters so bad in her throat that she couldn't swallow well for days. The other got a pretty mild case with just a few blisters on hands and feet but got a terrible fever. I sure don't remember getting that kind of thing when I was little!!

My neighbor just brought me Tylenol, Motrin, popcicles, and a Latte! LOVE her! I really needed that boost and I was out of meds for the poor boy! So far, the only thing he's eaten is CHIPS. Wha??? Those sound agonizing if you have a mouth full of blisters, but it's all he wanted.

Yay! William has finally eaten a popcicle, bowl of applesauce, and rinsed/drained/salted kidney beans. Good boy! Now I'm not nearly as worried about this HFM disease as I was when he woke up! Bad news is my DD looks to have some blisters forming in her mouth too :(

I am SO over-excited about Dave coming and building our run...I can't over emphasize that at all! It's all I think about day and night, LOL! In 8 days, I will no longer have to worry all day long about chickens, it will finally just be NORMAL for them to go outside on their own and be safe/secure in their coop all by themselves at night. Right now, when it rains, I don't let them out and I have to figure out a way to get them treats and greens that day. NO MORE once the run is built! They'll have covered outdoor access, yay!!

Speaking of cats and poultry...what age are my chickens pretty safe from a fairly uninterested cat? So far the cat just sits on the porch and watches them. He puts his ears back, highly annoyed, if any of them come near him. Some of them are actually quite bold and will run up to the cat squaking and clucking like they're yelling at the cat, it's pretty hilarious! I have already been letting the cat out when they free-range and he never goes near them. Should I consider them old enough, at 10 weeks, that the cat isn't a threat anymore?

Our cats stay clear of our girls, we have no roo's here, but the cats know to keep there distance. We have another dozen 10 week old girls out there too and the cats show no interest at all. The dog has learned too, she does not like getting pecked on the schnizzle.

Now every situation is it's own, this is just what happens here, with all animals a bit of supervision is never a bad thing.

LOL Yep I'm ordering wire and fence today, haven't heard from one gal about PP yet but I'm ordering regardless. We'll each have more than enough left over to plug holes and such. I should have 10 extra feet! As soon as you get me the materials list I'll go shopping!

I hope both your kids get better quickly. I've had one friend who's child went through that. So sorry. If I recall correctly, it's pretty miserble for the kid.

Looking forward to seeing pictures of your run. Do you have a tractor that you can throw a tarp over? We built a small tractor out of PVC pipe (only 3 chickens) and we put a tarp over the top. It works very well. Our 3 get to go out in the rain.

What I can't wait for is to get the coop/run combo done. I'm so tired of carrying them from the garage, through the house, to the backyard. And playing chicken chase... good heavens, those little squirts are fast, and they duck under tables and chairs. When it's time to put them back in their brooder it becomes a three ring circus. Happy Hen treats aren't even working - they know when those things come out, they're going back inside. They want to eat them, but they don't want to eat them, because they know they're going to be picked up and carried off to the brooder.
