That is so sad. When my chicks were small, I filled their water dish with marbles; the dish was aslo quite shallow.Just went out to check on my chickens and another chick jumped in the water and drowned. This hen has the worst luck. She started out with 4 and is down to her last chick. one disappeared and 2 have drowned. I am thinking of tossing rocks in so the other one doesn't drown. I have a little chick watering thing for them it was inside but I brought it out.![]()
How old are the chicks? One of my friends is using one of by broodies to raise her chicks in my coop. The chicks are a month old. They are currently locked in the coop, but I soon need to let them out of the cage they are in and out with the rest of the flock. I don't know at what age I can do this because of the water bowls that the other hens use.I don't want them to drown. I also don't want the other chickens picking on them, but I hate having my hen locked up. I gave them a chicken tractor, and I really hope they will use it for their birds when they return as the chicks are too young to mix with my flock and they can't stay in their cage until they are laying age.
