For those who use Scratch and Peck feed, what kind of feeder do you use? Any tips on what works best?

I use this one and it's fantastic for Scratch and Peck. To get more feed to come down, they are forced to eat all the small stuff too, instead of just pecking for all the good stuff and leaving what they don't like.

So I picked up the Corid and wrangled up Ricky and Princess and put them in the coop alone, all locked up. It's a 5x7 space for them, should be more than enough to keep them separate for a few days while they recover. I'm not certain that Ricky had Cocci too, but Princess was in BAD shape all night and morning and finally perked up a little this afternoon. I figure since they're both new they're probably both affected. Rather safe than sorry in this case. Question: Should I dose the big girls the 21 day preventative dose as a just-in-case since we have new flock members?

wow webster rd feed store was right down the street from where i grew up. The owners of the property had 10 acres with chickens, ducks and the meanest geese in the world. They also had a car lot there that was kind of cool. AW the memories. I always got our baby ducks at that feed store.

I asked my cousin how long my Uncle Bryon has owned it but he doesn't know. My guess is 20yrs of owning it & 30yrs of working there. Are you talking the James's own property over near Tanwax? I don't remember a car lot & I grew up with my mom taking us over to the feed store about every other month for dog food. Even at their own property. Maybe that was with the first owners of it. My Uncle has always had a lot of farm animals, horses were my Aunt's & then chickens, ducks, peafowl, peacocks, rabbits, cows, geese, house bird or 2, dogs, cats etc.

I was raising Dark Cornish cock over a pen of white rocks for that purpose.
But it got to the point that it costs more to feed your flock that it is to just buy the meaties from a big hatchery & have them delivered.
We get the "Bar-be-Que Special" from Murray McMurray.
We have one batch now at 4 weeks old & another batch coming on July 20th...which is butcher week for the first batch.
They are delicious !

Bummer. They have 25 minimum. I can't have that many here in the city. I was hoping to be able to {sneak} six in. That would put me at 9 birds, which is 3 over limit, but I figured they'd only be here for a few weeks anyway.

Does anyone know where I can get a smaller number?

I just use the metal trays and sometimes throw it on the floor of the run (they tend to eat it all that way more than in the trays, even!). There is the crumbs left afterwards, yes, but I usually dump that on the run floor and they'll eat it more than leaving it in the trays.

I was shocked at my 10 year by how many guys were going bald. It may be fun to go to my 30 year just to flaunt my full head of thick hair.

LOL! Um, yeah. That was a bit shocking to me, too. Oh... and the guys that looked like little boys in high school, still looked young and were suddenly the good looking ones. That was weird, too.

Just promise me you will keep swiping the hair out of your face while explaining what a bother it is, or how you could use a haircut

I just won a 24" galvanized trough feeder from The Chicken Whisperer show!!!!!

Congrats! Isn't this the 2nd win from that show? How cool is that? OK... now I'm really going to have to start listening to it.

Webster Rd Feed Store in Graham as of yesterday had Cornish mixes about 2wks old I believe. You could ask them if they could special ordered any breed, they might be able to. 253-847-1448 is the store number.

Genetics are so weird. My hubby is 36.5yrs with a full head of very salty drk brown hair, no thinning anywhere (I clip his hair). Now his full brother, my age 35yrs, has some very big bald spots, he keeps it shaved short. He was balding in his late 20's & hubby was greying in his late 20's. Both look older then they are unless they keep their hair military short or in my BIL's case shaved. Their mom's dad died with a full head of white hair so it looks like hubby got that gene.
