I use this one and it's fantastic for Scratch and Peck. To get more feed to come down, they are forced to eat all the small stuff too, instead of just pecking for all the good stuff and leaving what they don't like.
Jessica,
I use that one too. Now I haven't paid much attention but many times it will just be all the powder in the bowl, no grains. Have you noticed that yours are eating the powder? I usually shake it a bit to get the grains to fall down each time I go out to coop. Maybe I should just leave it alone?

Does anyone elses rooster damage the hens feathers?
Im so tired of seeing ripped up hens.

Im thinking about seperating the roosters because my son loves 2 of them so much, I cant bare to get rid of them.

I just use the metal trays and sometimes throw it on the floor of the run (they tend to eat it all that way more than in the trays, even!). There is the crumbs left afterwards, yes, but I usually dump that on the run floor and they'll eat it more than leaving it in the trays.
LOL, I was calling it powder..but crumbs is the perfect word!

Hmmm, good idea. I also heard you can mix the crumbs in with some water or yogurt for a treat. Might try that as well.

Occasionally I shake it, but mostly I expect them to eat the powdery stuff. Maybe I should be nicer and scoop it all out and make them a cake or something (yes, I've heard of people doing that! LOL) but for now I'm too busy worrying about new chickens :-/

Crumbs is perfect! I think I'll try that with some yogurt tomorrow; they're going to need it anyway since they will be on antibiotics.

I think tonight I'm going to start that. I'm putting everyone back together. Just gonna have to for my own sanity because really, these birds aren't worth all this worry. I'm not even like this about my own kids. They fall down? Shake it off, be tough, you're fine! They get sick? We stay home and drink gatorade and eat soup, don't use meds or go to the doctor like...erm, ever? LOL OK, gonna continue the Corid for everyone, add antibiotics, feed them lots of applesauce mixed with the probiotic I have and call it good.
Have you felt Princess' crop to see if it feels full ?
If so, she maybe impacted.
Is she pooping ?
If she is impacted she may not be pooping.
Cocci can make them sluggish & sometimes they just kinda 'huddle' and do not want to eat or drink.
A respiratory issue can make her breathe through her mouth also.
Is her nostrils plugged up ?
Sometimes you can gently open plugged nostrils with a toothpick.
Hope this helps.

Does anyone have a pdf file for a chicken saddle pattern? I suck at technology, and am not even going to try to manipulate the 8x8 pattern that is going around this site.
Want me to lay one down on my scanner & send you a copy ?
I buy them from 'Louise's CountryCloset (lousiescountrycloset.com) and she sews one end of the elastic to a snap, so they are really easy to snap on the bird...love them.
I will be back on later or in the AM & can send you a scan if you send me your e-mail address in a PM.

I was shocked at my 10 year by how many guys were going bald. It may be fun to go to my 30 year just to flaunt my full head of thick hair.
Hey by-Nature ! How goes the great westward move ?
have you talked to CloverLeaf Farm ?
She is in Canby, OR & may be able to help you out with your move there !

See ya guys later...

No, her crop isn't even remotely full. She's still pooping and it seems fairly normal now (two days ago and yesterday there was a LOT of intestinal lining but no evident blood). Her crop only feels like it's got anything in it right after she's eaten something, but for the last few days that's been rare. I have to really coax her to eat. Her nostrils aren't plugged up. I just checked her again. Breathing a little fast with her mouth slightly open but she doesn't seem distressed. I think maybe it was a combo of the beginnings of Cocci AND a cold of some sort. Perhaps just the fact that I'm fastidious about checking on them all every single day meant that I caught the odd behavior really early, which is why symptoms never got too bad? I will keep the toothpick trick in mind if they ever get plugged up though, that's a good idea.
