So I'm looking to make sure the flock doesn't get out of control and am looking for homes for a few babies and adults. If you are interested in anything below PM me.

I've got two non-bearded buff silkie chicks that are about six weeks old (they will have a little blue/black bleeding into their feathers as they are mixes). I'm pretty sure one is a male and one a female (though it's probably too early to tell). One has a significant bump where the comb would be.

A Magpie drake and Magpie x Runner duck (silver/splash) -- They are the two upfront in this picture. Lilly has a little peachy spot on her head - not sure if you can see it in this picture or not. She's an egg laying machine and the two of them keep a remarkably clean nest (which I thought was a plus as not all of mine do).

And a Magpie duckling and a silver/splash Runner duckling: They are two yellow ones. The lighter one in back should look like the pair in the next picture which are about eight weeks older but looked the same as ducklings.

Phew! I have some roasted little chickens out there! I've put up a sheet over one portion of their run since there is a period of the day when the sun is full force and they have no shade. I'll do something more permanent later but for now this is working. Poor babies are all in the little patch of shade it offers. I'm thinking I'll switch to a larger sheet to give them a little more shade. They've got plenty of water and one of the pans I periodically put ice cubes in to keep it cooler for them. They're digging holes and wallowing in the dirt, their windows are open in their coop and I'm about to put a milk jug of frozen water out there for them Is there anything else I can do to keep them cooler? My rooster is a big (and I do mean BIG) Wyandotte and the poor guy is sweltering!

A cheap tarp from Home Depot works GREAT!! I have one up for my girls and the plus side is it will usually slide right over any netting or chicken wire you might have in place then use 4 zip ties and its secure

I originally put mine up for the rain..... to give them a patch of ground that wasn't all muddy but they loved the shade it made yesterday!

we had wonderful fog this morning up until just a few minutes ago.
I got a 8 foot wide hard plastic wading pool yesterday and DH and I skinny dipped

It was so much fun !

mine LOVE the mud hole, I add water everyday...and I also use what is called 'shade clothe' you can buy on a roll at the hardware store usually in green or black, it is a weave and allows wind to blow through so heat does not build up under the tarp.

It was 100 here yesterday.

I own about 20 thermometers and they were all at 99.9-102 degrees.
Hard to believe here on the coast.
Our wind died and sweltering was not the word for it.
I never expected it to get that hot here...not here on the water.
The fog was back this morning

and hopefully stays a while.
And I am happy Jess has reported we will have our off shore breeze back !!!
I have no DH for the next week...and will probably be bored and bother you all too much.

I have intended to get a shade cloth but it's been so cold and wet I just didn't! I will have to try the mud bath idea! I bet they'll love it! I had a pan of ice water out there but they were snubbing it so I picked a bunch of berries and dropped them in. Now they're out there bobbing for berries! So funny to watch!

Hey! Chickielady, I vaccinated all my girls and was very thankful for your tips! I had two kids catching and handing them to me, I held them and DH shot them up! Then they went into the coop until the others were done. Then I gave them a treat so they'd quit giving me the stink eye!

Hopefully it'll save my girls! So far so good but the 10 day wait will be over next Thursday.

Of course your horse would think your nuts! But if your a horse person, like me, I think we all are a little nuts.

I ride hunter/jumper, but I want to try dressage in the near future. Maybe you would let me come out and watch you one day?

I have a lesson at 4 today and tomorrow, how is that for nuts? I try to embrace it.

Yeah.. Dressage > all
just saying

You're always welcome to come hang out and talk dressage. I have an older I-1 gelding who some times volunteers to give lessons. He's taught me a lot. I love having people out at the barn to discuss and learn with and from.

I am sorry, Your hen's stink eye look to the dog and the Flash's look are hilarious. Flash looks like is saying..."Are ya' kidding me, I should be eating you for lunch".

Maybe I should have posted this in that "You might be a crazy chicken lover" thread (or whatever it was!) My poor little Orloff was so hot her tongue was blue so I brought her into the house. She's currently sitting in front of the fan. It looks like the fan isn't moving but it is and she's just hanging out in front of it enjoying the breeze.

I give you my super model chicken....

Notice the way she's tossing her feathers seductively in the breeze....

My husband came home and caught me sitting on the kitchen floor with her and gave me "the look"!
