Come to think of it, I may as well post my whole shopping list here! I am aiming to have 5 hens, but I guess I ought to get a few extra chicks since there will surely be a rooster or 3 hiding in the batch. Extras would be rehomed. I would like a mixed flock, with some combination from these breeds: silver laced Polish, Columbian Wyandotte, multiple penciled partridge or buff black laced Orpington, double laced Barnevelder, salmon Faverolles, light Sussex, and black silkie. I definitely want a silkie and a Polish, but I'll take whatever I can find out of the other 3.

How does that sound? Am I going to have any problems with the pecking order with those breeds? I've seen breeders of Polish, Faverolles, and silkies on here. Are there any who make the breed and color combos I want on the others? I know I'm being picky, but I am mostly getting these to be family pets, and I want them to be pretty as well as tame.

Is there a withholding period to eat eggs that have been layed by a pullet who has been eating Purina Medicated Start and Grow?

My almost-19-week old RIR laid her first egg, and she's still on the medicated feed. I'll switch it out tomorrow - but I need to know if the egg is safe to eat. Thanks!

See I guess what I'm having a hard time deciding is if I want a bunch of mediocre laying GORGEOUS birds running around the backyard, or if I want to only feed them if they're giving us an excellent amount of eggs; so far I haven't found a truly pretty bird I want to have around, that also lays a lot of eggs. I don't like the look of RIRs or most of the other production breeds. Can you guys recommend birds that are pleasing to the eye and lay at least 70-80% of the time?

My bantam Cochins are my best layers, contrary to most articles you will read. I feed them a lot of extras like dried fruit, and Annie's Mac-n-Cheese.

Tattoo flash are pictures of tatoos that you can buy to use. There are a million butterflies, dragons, faeries, no hens! Especiall no silver laced Cochins! The only illustration i have seem, that i really like is http://www.katherineplumer.com/closeups/poultry/SOP/BBlueCochins.html

If there is no flash, or picture to photocopy, then you have to hire an artist. I do anyway, I am so bad at drawing, that I am a stamper.

See the name.....Chubby Chicken. You mean the two tablespoons of rice milk? or the .00 grams of cheese? Good of you to assume.

Chickens don't have any use for cellulose, but their diets usually have lots of corn in them.

1 cup of leftover ND Mac divided by 44 chickens = concern?

I am wondering if anyone raises ,meal worms. are they delicious? Just kidding. I am wondering if the beetles escape a lot. The one day that I watched the news this year, there was a segment on a gal that raises them in a small, plastic, rolling cabinet. Many articles referred to the lid on the container. The rolling little dresser had, I am guesstimating, 1/4" gap for clearance.

Will the beetles crawl out?
