Is there a withholding period to eat eggs that have been layed by a pullet who has been eating Purina Medicated Start and Grow?

My almost-19-week old RIR laid her first egg, and she's still on the medicated feed. I'll switch it out tomorrow - but I need to know if the egg is safe to eat. Thanks!

Shoot, it didn't even occur to me to ask this question. I have 75% a 50# bag of leftover medicated feed that I bought for the peachicks, and WAS going to give it straight on to the layers, since I ran out of layer and don't have enough cash for a new bag until the 1st. I figured I have plenty of oyster shells and egg shells to supplement the calcium portion. But it didn't occur to me that the medicated part would get through to the egg. **duh**

Thanks Dave, Jessica... everyone else who answered my question.

Teva - I called Purina this morning and they said the medication stays in the gut of the chicken and there is no withdrawal period for eating the egg.

Another (nearly panicked) question... will Rhodie get over the big scary predator who stole her egg? My goodness - if she doesn't shut up soon, I'm going to have some upset neighbors. What can I do (besides giving her egg back) to get her to be quiet?

Haha! I have some very noisy birds now that they're laying as well! It's obnoxious for sure; my worst is Princess and she's not even laying yet! I don't know that it's about the fact you stole their egg though, probably some worry and upset that someone is a new layer. Mine have seemed a little bit more tired lately, and they're all squawking up a storm half the day! I think it'll settle down once they're all laying.

Gonna send the kids out to look for eggs soon, I can't wait! 3 eggs two days in a row; wonder what today holds?!

Giving her egg back wont make her quiet. Thats just what they do! Most of my hens are louder than my roosters!

See I guess what I'm having a hard time deciding is if I want a bunch of mediocre laying GORGEOUS birds running around the backyard, or if I want to only feed them if they're giving us an excellent amount of eggs; so far I haven't found a truly pretty bird I want to have around, that also lays a lot of eggs. I don't like the look of RIRs or most of the other production breeds. Can you guys recommend birds that are pleasing to the eye and lay at least 70-80% of the time?

I think my Rhodie gets prettier each day. Maybe it takes time. She went through an ugly stage. Now her face and body look more feminine and pretty.

... that said... I'm about ready to tape that chickies beak shut!!! OMG! I don't think a rooster is as noisy as she is. She won't cut the emergency clucking/calls out. She went off so loud I ran out there, Caunnie got underfoot and I accidently kicked her as I was runing over to Rhodie. I can't see anything - other than she's still looking for that egg. This has been going on since about 6:00 this morning.

Nope, I promise it's not about the egg. That's just what they do. I am seriously so sick and tired of Princess; she just carries on and on with the crazy honking and squawking and she's not even laying eggs yet! Nor is she checking out nest boxes or anything. I hope she cuts it out and mellows down eventually. Seems both my Marans/EE and Marans/Ameraucana x birds are obnoxious.

Today I plan house chores and taking the prettiest pictures of my birds that I possibly can. I want to enter some of them in the BYC calendar for 2013.
