Yesterday I gave the chickens an egg. They were wandering around the yard and I was carrying the last egg of the day around. Laya was curious so I just set it down. She kept nudging it with her beak and pulling it under her! It was so cute. Another funny was that the new EE who's not laying yet saw the egg from about 20' away and she was all over it! She tried pulling it all over the yard to find a secluded place and kept sitting on it! I hope I have a broody in the spring!!

Sounds like a young pullet going broody to me.

How many bug treats is too many for chicks? These 2 week olds are hilarious. They go nuts for tiny roaches and mealworms. They now come running when I put my hand in the brooder! I have grit in a shallow cup and scattered some over their feed. There are a lot of little poos all over so they are not pasting up. They are active, alert, and constantly pecking at the shavings looking for more worms, lol. I am having a lot of fun with them, but I don't want to compromise their health.

Jennifer

I dont think you can OD them on bugs :)

VF - this is one of the new girls, she's over a year old and was laying at HoneySuckleHills' place until the day I brought her here. I just don't know why she'd go from laying, to terrified and adjusting to a new home, to broody :( I kinda hope she's not right now, I don't want to spend any more time with the chickens or trying to break her at the moment. In the springtime, all lights are green for broodies!

The 12 I got from CL last Sunday are not laying many eggs. I attribute that to a change in feed, and environment. None have gone broody tho :)

I'm so excited! Isaac just traded one of his guns for a Nikon D3000 for me!! It's most definitely a starter DSLR camera for me, but MUCH better than iPhone pics and my Sony Cybershot! LOL Woohoo! Can't wait for a good time to take me some chicken pics!

I dunno why but I always get broody's at the start of spring and end of summer... and a couple here/there in the middle
I currently have 2 little bantams hiding from me somewhere most likely brooding a nest of eggs
I figure I'll let them go at it since I can not find the nest and well they are not going to give me eggs anyhow. Might as well get some chicks to sell :D

Started rebuilding my back porch.... tore down the corner section and now got tubes to pour concrete in once I dig the holes for the post. gonna dig out my cement mixer and get it put together so I don't have to mix 10 bags of cement by hand.

We are going to make a new deck and porch plus enclose the porch so the wind/rain does not get in... kinda a mud room for when it starts to rain again. We are going to try and put a couple water IBC's under the porch to store all the water from the roof.

first dig holes and pour concrete pillars with 4x4 post brackets.... wheeee

Do you shop at Whole Foods paying big $$$$$$ thinking it's worth it because you love your family?
You might want to watch every minute of this no matter if you do or not...............

Operation: Whole Foods Hidden Camera GMO Sting - Bait Organic, Switch to GMO

This is a hard-hitting, hidden-camera,
guerrilla film by the young people at
OrganicSpy who have all the evidence
they need to prove that up to 30%
of Whole Foods' gross sales of over
$10 billion in 2011 was from the sale
of GMOs, contrary to the principle
upon which Whole Foods was founded!

OrganicSpies want to see GMO foods
labeled for what they are by supporting
California's Proposition 37. They explain
what needs to be done, in their gripping
video manifesto, also transcribed at the
link below.
