Just keep her seperate if you can, keep the wound clean and dry, up on her back it should be fine as long as no other birds are about and able to peck her.
Debride if you see ooziness, and apparent tissues hanging with no blood source or the tissues can become gangrenous,...and maybe apply a half and half douch of water/hydrogen peroxide once...no more as it is drying on the tissues.
Think a life size scarecrow of YOU in the bathrobe will keep the eagle away ?

For now she's in the house. I don't want the other girls pecking at her, and I guess flies laying eggs in the wound can be a problem outside, too. Would Blu-kote keep the flies off it if I want to put her outside in a dog crate for a while? I don't want her to get too lonely and bored.

I think we are pretty fair crowd. Rare Feather Farm, whatcha' think? I would have to admit though, it beats tornados. We don't really have earthquakes either.

Other than the wildfires it's great!

Three of my girls are going to the King County fair tomorrow. The kidletts across the street want a few more fair entries so I let them choose some of my dear ladies. Ms Crystal picked Miss Snowball aka (Icy) and Miss Inky. The girls are Silkies. Then today her older sister came over and decided that Claire the Welsummer that I got from Royce(aka Tailfeathers) would show very well also. So tonight I have three girls that have had a bath in the kitchen sink, resting in the garage waiting for a 7:00am wake up call.

I think that this show biz could be a lot of fun.

I had a pullet that had been thumped by one of the older girls, and I brought her in and doctored the wound on her back, a day later she was ready to join the group. She is doing great, and they seem to know the difference between weak and sick.

this is the cheapest, fastest easiest way to feed your birds, outside, and put the buckets in at night to keep from feeding varmits...and the chickens cannot 'kick' feed out all over the place ! I love this sytem !

I have not been home to show Tyson the fake Roo...I will have to try and do it tomorow. I do think though that Tyson "hit" hubby in the back of the leg tonight...so he is going to have to have some anger management classes if that continues. I may be asking for advice if he did, infact, hit hubby.

Sorry, I had forgotten you had lived in Tonasket. Our well is around 200 ft deep, we are not in an alkylye (no idea how to spell) area...our water is great, and cold and lots of it. We only live 1.5 miles from town on 3 acres. Makes it nice for getting teenagers back and forth from functions/sports, etc. But you are right, alkyline water lakes are stinky and weird feeling. Ever been to Omak lake? Or in the Lime Belt?

No, sounds creepy !

Love that feeder....wish I had seen that before I had spent money for a feeder...that everyone likes to scratch food out of and get it all over the ground. Little slobs.
