Hey ironimagery!

Of course I know where Ethel is!! I live over by the Lewis and Clark St. Park off HWY 12 myself...

Believe it or not that addy is still Winlock even though I'm definitely an east sider. I couldn't live without visiting Ron at Premium Quality Hay once a week or so. He helped us decide if our little chickies were big enough to start eating something other than chick starter. Glad to know someone else is in the area on BYC and a hop skip and a jump away! You sound like you have a great little hobby farm too. Our neighbor just got some pygmys and they sure are cute.

We ourselves have a mini donkey thats absolutely in love with my Belgian Mare.... everyone always cracks up laughing when they drive by our pasture and see the little grey guy hanging out under his blond girlfriend's belly and not touching. We haven't decided if he thinks hes a foal or he just likes the portable shade/rain shield. Either way, our animals are the love of our lives.

And happy Fathers Day folks!

I think I know where you are too! Howdy neighbor! *waves*

So, I'm curious as to all you folks who like me got a lot of snow last year... how did your chickens do in all that weather? Someone suggested its going to start snowing more over here and I want to make sure when we get our coup totally done, its what they need to winter over. We're still finishing our coup - building it out of a barn that fell down with the snow fall last year, reusing wood, etc.

When the snow was really light the hens were out there all the time. When it got ankle deap for me they were in the coop. Heck they are out right now in a thunder storm. I have to coop open so they can go in if needed during the day. My coop then was really a cage with the back covered in wood as well as the top of the whole cage. The other part was hardware cloth with doors. In December there is going to be a poultry show somewhere in your area which I plan to go to so maybe we can meet up then.

Thanks for the info... I need to remember that my chickens are going to be monster sized by then and stop worrying if my coup is good enough. They are so cute and friendly and needy right now that I still worry. My oldest is 9 weeks and my youngest is 4.

I'd love to meet up for a chicken show. I can even head up that way too. Wa isn't that big and I love driving. I went to that auction in Oakville the first of the month and that was pretty great... but after reading about people like Purple Chicken and MS, I just go to look and drool.

what did you read about Purple Chicken and MS? The show is suppose to be in chailise (sp) I never spell that right. I am just not sure of the date yet but it is in Dec. I have a pair of bantam rhode island red's that I might show. I have to wait to see how they grow out. I show my american chinchilla and holland lop rabbits so it can't be too different to show chickens.

Chehalis... two minutes down the road or so. I'd love to go see them.

Purple Chicken did a video about having to cull his whole flock because he got MS in them. It was heartbreaking, and made me really careful when going to chicken shows/auctions... but it won't keep me from going at all. I just am going to be really careful if/when I get new birds, how I bring them into the flock, and what to watch for when a bird is in quarantine and when I buy.

His video is on Youtube and there's a thread here about it.

I don't think its too different to show chickens. I think that would be great fun too. I have RIRs too... great birds.

Does anyone have turkey chicks? I have a friend that wants to have turkey's and I thought if I could find someone in her area
coopville/whidbey island I could send payment and they could deliver for me. I live about 4 hours away from her. This would be a belated birthday present.
PM me and we can chat about it there.

Thanks,

I have a mille fleur cochin (F2) project bird for sale. It's a roo. Hatched in March. I may have another one, as well...it will depend on if my other "pullet" turns into a roo or not...I cannot justify having ONE hen and THREE roos to go with her! LOL
