I don't have a transfer box for my generator, but the way I hook it up there is NO chance of it going out onto the powerlines.

Has anybody heard anymore about Michael ??? or talked to Russ. I see he hasn't been on here in a few days.

7 out of 8 eggs today

. The only one not laying is my calif. white. boy has she become friendly the last couple days. she comes up to me and eats out of my hands. Maybe its because she heard me mention her name and BBQ in the same sentence LOL .

My coop is a large walk-in coop. I was doing some construction work inside the coop this evening just as it was getting dark. I took out two 2 x 4s nailed together for a base plate and the chickens went crazy. There were warnings from the roos and all the chickens all huddled in one corner -- the wrong corner, of course. As I came closer with the boards they all scrambled and fluttered to the opposite corner. I put the boards in place and started some measuring. Pretty soon they were all over by the boards that had just scared them almost to death, lined up on both sides, pecking and clucking quitely. I think they were discussing what the purpose of that board might be. Don't worry, girls, it is not the chopping block.

Chickens are so funny.

Sorry Guys, I'm here daily and have read every post, just so tired after work that I don't post much. And no excuse for the last couple days. I actually raked some leaves and dealt with a cat emergency. I know I know excuses.

I talked to Michael today and he said everything's OK. The chickens are well, fat & happy. He thinks he has enough food for about a month. He also said "thank god for you all. You all really came through." I let him know that I am available if he needs anything for himself or the chickens. And that I live fairly close.
He really wants work to pick up. I told him I could keep him busy for awhile, but didn't want to spend the money in this economy. He chuckled and said "Everyone says that"
He seemed like a very nice guy.

I know we ALL thankyou for your time !! Don't have to make excuses, Got to take care of yourself first !! Let us know if ya need help with anything.

I meet another lady today that I think is going to need help with feed. I think I can take care of it myself. Her and hubby just split up. she has two kids and 12-13 chickens. The chickens are the kids pets. Might have to try and find homes for some ot them down the line. Her set up is pretty poor. She said raccoons and coyotes have gotten a few over the months.
How many more people are there like this????

count your blessing people !!!! I do EVERY DAY !

Hey Ron,

I bet more people than we would like to think, are in a bad spot right now. Let me know if I can help. Any way we can fortify her set up? Cheap?
I count my blessings all the time. I have been in these peoples position, and I was lucky to have good friends, and wonderful parents to help me. Now I have a wonderful husband, But I still have the friends and family.

Justbugged, are you still willing to do a slaughter with me? I'll get the chickens. I have a couple of killing cones also. The person closer didn't pan out and I'm still sitting here never having slaughtered a chicken! Maybe I could grab a couple of turkeys for christmas...

I've been talking to Michael about making some breeding pens for me. Now I'm sort of embarrassed because the quoted price is way more than I thought they would be, so I'm gonna have to back out of throwing some work his way.

Thanks Ron,
But I haven't really done anything yet. My turn to help will come. And about the lady. In for a penny, in for a pound. Let me know what I can do. I'm good for a little money, time whatever is needed.

If it ever stops rainning, maybe you and I can run over and look at her set up. she lives by country village.

I"m making my coop inside the Barn Bigger. going from 6 X 8 to 12 X 8. that will give the girls alittle more room. if they want to stay inside where its dry

Thanks. Bothell is a drive for you. I was at my folks taking care of some other business. so I didn;t spend alot of time with this gal. If i remember right. she had a big circle made out of chicken wire and that 2x4 welded wire. too big to put a top on. I think the fence was either 4 or 5 ft. high. not to hard for a raccoon or coyote to get over.

I think it might be best if she could unload a few. she had several different breeds. BR, RIR were the ones I recognized

bed time night all !

Yes, there are probably a lot of people out there like this right now. It's too bad we can't help them all.

Someone in this thread a while back was talking about buying custom feed from a mill and selling it to us, but I can't remember who. I know I go through about 200lbs a month and buy a months worth at a time. I would love to buy something without soy. Anyone else?

I need to make a confession. After speaking with Weavegarden last night I just wanted to put this out here.... mostly to Kim and Nyrial, but I also wanted everyone else to know just in case. <takes a deep breath> Okay. Not only am I socially retarded, I have major social anxiety. I lied to both of you on separate occasions about why I didn't meet up with you. I just totally chickened out. It makes me look flaky, and I guess it does make me that way, but I don't mean to. It's easier for me to meet people once I let them know that I may seem strange, or I may be a motor mouth because I'm nervous... or any of those things that make me look back after meeting someone and say, "Oh my goodness I did not say that!" <sighs> I usually did say that.

I work alone, I have no family out here ('cept the one I made), and though I have lived out here for 20+ years, I've not managed let people into my bubble. So there you have it. My name is Donna and I make people feel awkward.

With that out of the way, Kim, I'll see you on Friday. For sure.. really this time.
