We had Betsy Wetsy also. I remember my first dolls. They were the real life size with the rubber heads and hard plastic bodies. The only thing they really did was shut their eyes when you layed them down. My sisters had the little hole in the lips so the bottle would stay in. We loved those poor babies so much.

Back to chicken talk.

We have a friend who got 11 chickens about 6 weeks before me. Last time I had seen them, they seemed huge. Since that time apparently she quit feeding them much. They also don't range unless they escape. My mom decided to buy a few of them from her, and they weigh less than my second batch (the 16 week old girls at mom's house). We are giving them 24% starter until they finally start to lay.

I am so mad at the friend. She manages to buy herself pop, but not food for the chickens. I wish I could rehome all 11 of hers. But not at $15 each.

Does anybody know if this will keep them from ever laying?

Weaveagarden- I am not sure if this will damage them permanently, but if she can't afford to feed them she should at least let them out to forage for themselves. She should also do the responsible thing and try to give them to good homes. Are they laying at all?

No. They are 28 weeks this week sometime. She has 2 Turkens, 2 BR, 3 EE, and now 1 Red Sex Link.... She sold mom 3 of those. All of these are supposed to be fairly early layers, and lay in mild winters also from what I have heard, except possibly the Turken (don't know much about them). There really is no excuse. She is disabled, and a large woman. She is still mobile, not in a wheelchair. But at the very least you make it out once a day and throw food at them, even when you are having a bad day, as far as I am concerned.

You need to report her to the local animal shelter, and I think you can call the local police, and report her for animal cruelty. Every living thing deserves food. Especially if a human cages an animal up in a pen.

I think that it will be awhile, but with good nutrition the hens will recover, and will be able to lay again after they become healthy.

He is supposed to be helping her keep the coop clean, and has fallen down on that job some, so he didn't realize how light they were, or he would have acted sooner.

It is hard to call the police on her in such a small town. Things get around you know. And I don't need her calling them on me for my messy yard and rooster. I would be more likely to plan a covert rescue mission and "free the captives".

I will keep you informed about the 3 my mom has. It will be interesting to see if there are any long term effects. I think if she had kept feeding them, they would all be laying for her by now. I must admit I haven't been quiet to her about my girls laying.... I have been crowing up a storm. She is very envious I think.

Weaveagarden: I think I would be willing to come out and help you one night. We could call it "The Great Chicken Escape Caper".

I am sure I would have no memories of the event afterward. I belong to the Shoot Shovel and Shut up Club.

And I love a good rescue caper.

You forget about the time when Jem came into the picture too. Barbi had ran off with GI Joe and Ken was obviously upset, he tried to make Barbi jelous by hooking up with rocker Jem, unbeknowist to Ken, Jem lead a double life as Jerrica, and even deeper the ironic twist , Jerrica was actually GI Joe's old highschool flame. So, while his fling with Jem had little affect on Barbi, GI Joe was the jealous type and swooped Jerrica off her feet, leaving Barbi. Her affair with Ken and Gi Joe would have gone on for years probably had Midge not discovered her true double life indentify when she was moonlighting as a flower delivery girl. Barbi and Ken did make up, but their reunion would be short lived. Jem befriended Barbi and they started a band. Barbi went on the road, and Ken would not follow as a groupie.

I am so relieved by what I hear being reported on the news this am. According to the news The Lakewood suspect is no longer on the run. According to the news he was shot by a single Seattle police officer and the suspect didn't survive. I guess this means now we ( the taxpayers) won't get to pay for many years of appeals and or to keep him in prison for years.
I will try to be very cautious what I say here so as not to say things that may cause problems on this thread. But I am pleased with the knowledge that he may have been suffering and in pain from the original gunshot wound(s). They say they have already arrested 3 and by end of day hope to have 6-7 in custody for helping him to escape.
I hope these people get very severe penalty also.
OK I better stop before ramble too much more.

They don't make the laws they are just the ones who have chosen to do the very important job of enforcing the law and trying to protect us. The police are just like the rest of us. People with a job to do and orders to follow.
