Donna. I think you are right about the weeder geese. So small ones should be good too. Unfortunately, the council would throw me in the hoosegow for illegal possession of waterfowl.

Oh, on a similar train of thought..... My neighbor operating the drive through meth lab seems to have moved on. I didn't see any drug bust, but maybe it happened while I was up north of the holidays.

Only 6 for 12 today. I am hoping they make up for it tomorrow. I have been averaging 9 per day.

OK it is for sure now! I am looking to beg, borrow or rustle an incubator or find one of the pros that would hatch for me.

Actually that's a great idea... see if a school would want to use your eggs for hatching...

I am about 8 miles outside of Eatonville in the forest - - my brother and I just built a coop over the Christmas holiday and I am still debating on what breeds of layers I will have - - I have about another month to decide and finish the fine-tuning on my new coop! IF it stops raining.....I could get it done!

I am soooooo excited to be entering into the world of chickens!

I will be depending on ya'll to help me out - this forum looks to be the right place to have landed - - I might have to buy the Chickens for Dummies book too!

That is a nice looking coop/run! I can't tell if you have an apron around it from the picture, if not you may want to consider one to keep the predators from digging under your run.

How many chickens are you planning to get? Do you want dual purpose breeds or just layers? Is production the most important thing or are you looking for some diversity in hen type and egg color?

You're going to love having chickens--Be warned though, they are very addictive!!

I'm down in Mossyrock, not too far from you. If you want to buy some local chicks, I know some guys in Glenoma who sell eggs year-round and baby chicks throughout the spring and summer. When I came out with roos, they exchanged them for pullets for me. Very nice guys. I forget what all the breeds are that they have, but know for sure they have barred rock, rhode island red and australorp. They had Easter eggers last year but mentioned that they might not do them again. They are working on silkies for this year, too.
