I sell my extra chicken eggs for $3/dz and $4/dz for duck eggs. I have no problem getting rid of them at that rate and have folks coming from quite a distance to get them. There is one guy that told me he would pay that for 5 dozen/week. He sells his eggs to various Farmer's Markets. I know the main stores like Safeway sell their "Cage Free" and/or "Free Ranging" Brown eggs for around $5/dz and they ain't no where nears as fresh as what folks get from me. Usually my eggs are no more than a few days old when they're picked up.

Speaking of picking up eggs, I was out yesterday around Noon and heard an egg song on the other side of the fence down toward where the pond drains out. Sure enough, there was a BR pullet and a bunch of eggs near her. The little potlicker had 13 eggs there. Didn't see any today but I'll have to keep an eye out for more. Hopefully she'll brighten up a bit and start using the nesting boxes!

God Bless,

On that sneaky chicken!

Hi everyone,

You post a lot. Pages to keep up on every night. Are all your fingers as tired as my eyes?

1- I will get some feed for Michael as well. I don't think anyone has talked to him recently.

for Raintree Nursery. I have nothing but good things to say about them. Wish I had more yard space. A couple years ago I did a raintree Christmas. Lots of gift certs for friends, family and neighbors. If you have questions you can ask to talk to their horticulturists.

3- My yard is too shady for a garden. Last August I sent some blackberry starts to another BYCer in Colorado. In return she and her fiance insisted on sending me some seeds from Colorado. Powdery mildew resistant cantaloupes, and Black Diamond Watermelons. She said they were a local delicacy. They are from the DV Burrell Seed Growers in Rocky Ford Colorado. If you think they are still good and want them I will mail them to you. PM an address. I know nothing about the viability of melon seeds.

Hope I covered everything

Russ

Oh! my handle- A few years ago I took in 3 feral kittens and bottle raised them. I kept the littlest one. He is named Imp because I used to wake up with him sitting on my chest staring into my eyes willing me to wake up and play. I called him my green-eyed Imp. As an adult he got very obese, so the neighbor kids said he should be named Blimp. It stuck and I stole his name for BYC- a coworker suggested it.

wow i have fallen behind.... but then i havent gotten any new subscription emails lately..... stupid byc software.
one of the roos i got from nyrial started crowing tonight when i turned the light on in the shop.... i thought something was dying... is there any way to post audio on here????

I put a pic of my new (first hatchling) chick, Holly in my avatar! That was when she was just a couple days old. She's 2 weeks now and getting very spoiled. I've made a point of holding her a lot since she's all alone. Now, if I look in the brooder, she flies up onto my shoulder. Her wings are working very well

I've been walking around the house with her up on my shoulder and letting her perch on my arm at the computer sometimes.

Just wanted to show off my baby one

Watch out. You are going to be an indoor chicken rancher soon too!

She is adorable! What is she?

Both her parents are EEs so I'm hoping she lays a blue egg too... if she's a she, anyway

We sell our eggs for $2.00 dz but we are in the middle of nowhere. I normally give the first dz free. I have also been known to give a dozen to others who are struggling. Our eggs have never been more than a week old and always go in the egg fridge the day they are laid.

For those of you who like Raintree keep in mind that they buy a lot of their stock from Burntridge which is about 10 miles closer to I-5.

Imp I would be interested in A FEW of those seeds. I will PM snail mail addy.

I had to cull a GORGEOUS cuckoo showgirl roo a couple of minutes ago. I'm still sitting here feeling all sorts of sappy and sorry for myself....

He was the one cuckoo roo I was hoping to holdback. I had promised a dear lady that I would keep a cuckoo roo and hen to holdback and breed on to continue her line and I had two roos. Well,,,,.... while adjusting the brood from brooder to regular temp (with heat lamp) guess who came down ill? My personal fave roo of the two- the cuckoo showgirl with good toes but red/pink skin. I gave him three days on antibiotics and tube feeds. I told myself today was the deadline, if he wasn't looking perkier and/or eating on his own by today I was going to cull. Well, he still seemed pretty weak and although gorgeous I just wrang his neck!

Oi, the guilt. It was over in less than 2 seconds but I feel awful. I know it will pass like every time I butcher but it feels particularly awful since he wasn't much to eat/use other than dogfood and I like to feel like nothing was wasted. Oi. Life... sometimes I just wanna.... POW, right in the kisser.
