Rob, not sure about chickens, but with ducks it's perfectly okay to breed daughter back to father and son back to mother. There's a lot debate about siblings. I spoke a bit with a very good breeder about linebreeding/inbreeding. He did some experiments 20 odd years ago and found that consistently he didn't find problems until around the 7th generation. He doesn't breed that far along, but he wanted to know "with his own eyes" when problems began developing. We also spoke some about egg color genetics (ducks don't get the variations in egg color that chickens do, but occasionally you get some neat ones and he bred ducks for egg color for a bit before he let that project go in favor of other things he was more interested in). I wrote it down somewhere. I have a long work day today and if someone doesn't get back to you before I can, I'll look it up and tell you what he said.

I just want to check in and say HI.

I will be working on getting my house a few steps closer to having a roommate soon. I haven't forgotten your offer Donna and hope to talk to you about that soon.

Anyway. My chickens just love Spagetti Squash. I just gave them a half a squash and it is about gone in 5 minutes. I think they believe it to be yellow worms.

So funny to watch them fighting over it.

Have I mentioned lately how much I love my chickens?

I haven't been on here in a while...I am ordering new chicks from McMurray and want to know if any one in Whatcom county wants to split the order I'm willing to take 10-15 of the 25 min order of chicks. I would like to order in the next couple of days for a March 2nd delivery date.

I'm such an addict. I went to a chicken swap meet today in Chehalis, just to look and see what people had. I left with 2 banty polish roos. LOL They're beautiful and very calm/gentle. One is a frizzle also. The boys have named them Shaggy and Scooby. They're in the bathroom right now in a small cage 'till I can get them a quarantine cage set up. Oh dear... my husband is going to kill me

I know what ya mean I had planned on getting some EE's this year but since I have 15 chicks from eagle that are about 2 month old and 14 eggs in the bator. I don't think I have enough room.
Time to build more coops and runs. Did I think that out loud?

what kind of chicks did you get from Mike? barnies or BCM? I need to add on to my coop also before my chicks have to be out there. At least they won't be here for another month anyway. I have room for the chicks I have now.
