La Sombra, I am in almost the exactly same situation as you and I'm starting to panic a bit. We have 25 birds out in the coops. I have 10 chicks in the brooder box. I ordered 3 different batches of eggs, and the first arrived today. That order was 18 BBS bantam cochins, I also have 12 lavender bantam cochins (+ he threw in 4 LF black cochin eggs) as well as 6 BLRW (and she threw in a few Blue Andalusion eggs) + we have a bowl full of our own black bantam cochins sitting here waiting to go in.....I'm not even sure they will all fit in the incubator!!! ARGGHH!!!!
I do have a lady coming on Sunday to take 4 of our birds, and I've offered up the 2 RIR hens to Steve above, we will probably be placing ads on craigslist next month for the older birds and/or laying hens we can part with. I am also assuming I will have some extra roosters in my hatch that will have to go.
RobB, what's the deal with Monroe Farm & Feed accepting birds? I keep meaning to ask them and forgetting. Do they take any/all birds?
Djackjr, well I would say hatching eggs because it's so neat to watch them hatch, and you can get almost any breed/variety here on BYC and I think supporting our members here is a great thing. However, if you only want standard size and only want pullets, than chicks might be the way to go because they can sex most standard birds. Bantams they don't sex for the most part, so you might as well do hatching eggs. I also can't bear to put those little chicks through the mail anymore after we lost so many last year, that's another reason why I lean towards eggs.
