It really depends on your willingness to deal with the troubles for the life of the bird, and the birds desire to fight the good fight. The call is entirely up to you! Good luck and let us know how it goes!

The other chickens will more than likely pick on it. I think it would be easier to part with it now then later. Before you get too attached to it. Its going to have a tough life if it can't walk.I know how you feel. Tomorrow I will be getting rid of my 10 month old BR rooster. I don't want to get rid of him,but I know its the best think to do. My wife and friends that come to visit are afraid of him. He is very hard on my hens too. they are all losing feathers because of him.

If you want to keep it and try I would 1 put tape on its feet to try and flaten them out the correct way (Ive done this to young chicks and they did great in a day or two so it might take longer. 2 make a sling to help the legs stay closer together ( Ive used vet wrap for a few young ones and they did fine)
I know how hard it is and sometimes its just best to let them go. Good luck with what ever you decide oh have you give it Vit to help?

Holy moley Robin said; Dang, I've been so busy the days have slipped away from me. My last visit was 2/25, wow.
Happy to read that the "Party" went really well.

Haven't started my flock yet. My truck went down and it's taking up space in my garage where I was going to house the chicks. The good news is that the truck is almost back together, so I should be ordering my chicks this coming week

I had a baby RIR that one of its feet just shriveled up and fell off! The others didn't really pick on her too much and it took a long time for her to learn to walk on the stump (it was sore for a long time). She eventually learned to kinda flap her wings and get around and she was doing great until the neighbors dog came over and killed almost all my chickens.

Good luck with your baby.

to more Newbies!!!!

Uplate, have you figured out exactly what is wrong with the chicks legs/feet? It does sound like the tape to uncurl the feet and maybe spraddle leg treatment might help. We had a chick hatch last month with a slipped tendon. After researching it on the net, we wrapped it in vet tape for a week and it is fine now. If you can research the problem and treat it, that's what I'd do. If you can't figure it out and treat it, then its' probably time to cull it unless you are going to cater to it for the rest of it's life.

Steve, let me know if you want to meet up at the show next Saturday to pick up the RIR's. We will be there early since the birds go in before 9:00. I think the show is only open till 2:00 or so, but the earlier the better so the birds don't sit in the car for too long. If you want to come out to the house on Sunday, that will work too. Just let me know!

Those of you going to the show next weekend, my DD's bird was bought as a chick at Monroe Farm & Feed last year. I still have the receipt and used it at the fair last year to prove it was NPIP. Does anyone know if that will cover it at this show, or do I need something else? Worse case, it gets tested, so not too concerned, but thought I'd ask.

Turkey watch begins today, it's been 28 days to the day she went missing, and boy was she mad when I was out there peeking at her. I'm pretty sure she's going to sprout fangs and rip my hand off.

I made her stand up, but no pips yet that I could see. Hoping.....

Hi everyone,
Just to let you know, if anyone is interested. I went to Reber Ranch and they have Cochin's, Brahmas, giant somethings, Gold and Silver Laced Wyandottes and Sicilian Buttercups right now.
I almost didn't make it out of there without a couple buttercups.

WHY did you have to say that?? I was hoping for a moment you meant a breeder with Brahmas. . . grr. I don't think I will ever go to a feedstore, as I'll never go to a hatchery. Desperately on the hunt for real Brahmas, though.
