Yes, imagine a Wheaten rooster, but replace all the black with blue. And imagine a wheaten hen, but replace the black tail and wing feathers with blue. They're quite pretty. The reason I say Wheaten/Blue Wheaten is because of the genetics, it throws both normal Wheatens and Blue Wheatens.

If I could, I would love to show you pics of Lisa cree's Wheatens and Blue Wheatens. . . Gorgeous rooster, for one thing!

Eagle: Kinda lost, what exactly are you asking?

The bird sounds interesting, but I'm lost on what you're asking of us to give as feedback. . . This is a purposed cross, yeah?

I will be bringing lots of started chicks to the show in Stevenson this weekend. I have some chicks that are about a month old and have some that are hatching as we speak.

Lots of different varieties, NPIP certified.

What breeds?

Ameraucanas of course!

More than anything I was wondering if this was morally, okay, as the two breeds are very special.
Alot of people want to help these breeds and take there breeding very seriously. I was trying to make it so that the Barnevelders lay darker eggs without interbreeding.
If you have Black Copper Marans (and I know some of you do)is it okay to to cross with other birds to help their breed?
Has anyone done this before? How has it helped?
Mike

Ah now I see what you mean. Well, since all of us experienced dark egg people know Barnevelders have terrible eggs in the US, I myself consider it fine. If it works, I consider it great when you cross it back to the Barnevelder and see how that goes. I actually support you in this, really.

Hope you and your family are doing well. I may have been MIA and missed it, but did your wife have the baby yet?

They could've come as early as this weekend, but I'm thinking it's going to be another couple of days (I'm starting to think my ducks weren't really 'sitting' on them 28 days ago, maybe just spending more time by the nest and 'thinking' about getting serious

). Anyway the eggs still look viable, but no pips or peeping yet. I'll keep you posted. Though they have gone into that mode where they are hardly leaving their nests for any reason. I'll keep you posted.

T Hi, I'm afraid I've been losing eggs like crazy the last few days, not sure why ... :-( . I'm down to four good eggs under one duck and maybe one under the other. Last Spring I had such good luck, I didn't expect this. I'm afraid one went rotten several days ago and it somehow affected the others. Anyway, I'm not sure what to except in the coming days. I'm soooo sorry I won't have black ducklings to help you get started. Really hoping someone else can help you out soon.

I may be back here looking for advice from a few of the rest of you later today.

Hello all! I'm not only new to Washington, new to this board and also new duck owner! FINALLY starting my dream of raising duckies as pets and egg producers. My babies are due Apr 19th. We live near Poulsbo, WA (Kitsap Co.) Would love to find anyone else out in this area...

Hello All,

First, Welcome to Maralynn28 and the few others I saw who have recently joined like me.

I have been very busy with life, naturally, and our first big hatch! I have been trying to check the pics and see everyone's chicks have been doing, but haven't had a chance to post. I am very interested to see pics from La Sombra about her brood of miracle chickees. I love seeing everyone's photos (^^). Our hatch produced 9 chicks from 15 eggs. More than I was expecting given that this was a first run for our rooster who had only just figured out what mounting is and a handful of eggs from some friends who only have 2 roosters for about 40 hens. That being said, here are our first photos of the little ones:
DSC06884.JPG

DSC06891.JPG

They are all different shades, 5 buff chicks, 2 that look like NH Red chicks, 1 that looks like a barred with a fluffy grey bum and black body and yellow beak, and 1 with black beak, comb and body but with a buff bum and wing tips. You can see the all black peaking out in the second photo, but s/he is all but invisible with black on black.

Looking forward to more chick pics! Aaron & Laura
